Original pony, or replacement? Replacement. :*( Aww . . .

Because Angel was a So-Soft pony, I didn't appreciate her as much as I might have. Like the Twinkle-eyes, I considered So-Softs to be a cheap gimmick. In fact, I liked the So-Softs even less than the Twinkle-eyes simply because they were "nuzzily soft." I hate the feeling of velvet (especially crushed velvet . . . eww!) and I hated the feeling of that stupid flocking.

That's probably why I got Angel as a last resort . . . You see, by the time Angel came out, I was content playing with the ponies I already had. And yet, when my mom said she was going to K-Mart, I suddenly wanted a pony. After much begging and pleading, she agreed that I could come along and pick out a pony. Yay! I really wanted to get Whizzer or Galaxy (I never quite caught on that each "set" of ponies was only out for a single year), but when I got to the place, all they had left were those darned So-Softs. Boy was I disappointed!

Well, I figured that I should get a pony anyway while I had the chance, so I looked over the second set of So-Softs, hesitated over Crumpet and Bangles, and finally chose Angel (because I liked her backcard story.) And although I was disappointed (I'd really wanted Whizzer), I realized that Angel was a beautiful pony. (To this day I wish they'd made a non-So-Soft version of her.)

So by the time we bought Angel and got to the car, I was pretty excited over my new pony. I opened her package, promptly lost the Year 5 brochure that came with her (and possibly her brush or comb . . . I don't know if the hairpick I have is really hers), and held my pony with admiration. My sister had also come along for the shopping trip, and she asked to see Angel. I handed Angel over happily (my sister's eleven years older than me, so it wasn't as if she was a little kid who would cut her mane or something.) Then my sister asked if she could braid Angel's mane; I proudly said "Yes!" So she plaited the So-Soft's mane and tied it with the blue ribbon that was included.

But when we reached home, my worst fears were realized--I took out the ribbon and unbraided Angel's hair and it wasn't curly anymore! I was so upset I almost cried. I just stared at the straightened mane sadly. My sister defensively pointed out that she had asked before braiding it, to which I agreed, saying it wasn't her fault . . . but I was still on the verge of tears. Anyway, my mom quickly whisked Angel away to the bathroom and put curlers in her hair. After a setting for a day, Angel once again had a curly mane!

Because of her flocking (I still hate the feel of So-Soft ponies), Angel wasn't played with as much as the "regular-skinned" ponies. As a result, she was in gorgeous shape--not one flocking rub anywhere, and her flocking was nice and clean. When I did play with her, I gave her a sweet yet practical personality.

Angel, alas, was lost at the Garage Sale of Doom. Interestingly, she actually had orange striped fish as her symbol, not green striped ones like Hasbro drew. And on a final random note, I always thought Angel should have green eyes and a green ribbon. Too much blue is just too much!
