Buying, Selling, and Trading Ponies on the ‘Net

There are many places to buy, sell, and trade MLPs on the Internet. I'm going to mainly focus on selling ponies--although obviously you can buy ponies from any place that sells them. Here are a few of the more prominent places:

Websites

Many people sell, trade, and buy ponies on websites--either their own websites or on other people's.

Advantages: You set the price for selling ponies. You can sometimes find rarer ponies for sale for cheap prices on other people's pages. There are many popular "trading posts" where you can post your buy, sell, and trade lists for free.

Disadvantages: You probably won't sell stuff for the incredible pie-in-the-sky prices that sometimes hit e-Bay. (On the other hand, you won't sell for the low end prices either.) Also, not fewer people will see your wants and trades than if you posted on an auction site.

Examples: You can buy/sell/trade on your own site, obviously. Other good websites: MLP Trading Post, The Big Red Toybox, and Dream Castle's Trading Post.

Auctions
You can have an auction on your own site, of course. The only other auction site worth mentionning is e-Bay.

Advantages: If you post an auction on your own site, it's free. E-Bay costs money to sell from, but thousands of people will see your auction, so it may sell for a lot of money. Then again, it might sell for lower than normal. There are no guarantees.

Disadvantages: No guarantees. Your pony could sell for $30 or for $2.

Mailing Lists
Mailing lists are handy because not only can you sell your ponies there, but you can also advertise your trade page or e-Bay auctions!

Here are the most prominent mailing lists: ponypeople@egroups.com (for general MLP stuff) and 98ponylovers@eGroups.com (for stuff regarding the "new" 1998 ponies).

Scammers: A Word of Warning

Scammers are out there, so be careful who you trust! Be sure to ask for references unless you know who you're buying from or trading with!

Places on the 'Net

There are many, many MLP pages on the Internet, but these are some of the most significant:

Dream Valley is the place to ID My Little Ponies. In addition, it has episode guides for all the MLP specials and episodes. This is also the home of the Dream Valley Chatroom. DV Chat is based heavily on roleplaying.

Dream Castle is another large site. It has many features, but is best known for the Dream Castle Message Board, the largest MLP message board on the 'Net. It is also the home of the Dream Castle Chat Room, the only chat room that has ever successfully drawn any number of people away from the Dream Valley Chat Room. Though much smaller than DV Chat, the DC Chatroom is a wonderful place to hang out in a relaxed, non-RPG atmosphere.

Ivy's homepage has the largest variety of free MLP pictures on the 'Net . . . including pictures of some UK ponies!

Princess Taffeta's Scrapbook is the best place to find information on UK exclusive ponies.

The MLP section of e-Bay is an excellent place to find ponies, although the prices can be a bit high.

The MLP Trading Post is one of the best places to post buy, sell, and trade ads for free. The board is moderated, so it may take a while for posts to show up.
