My Little Pony Accessories

One of the hardest things for a novice (or experienced) My Little Pony collector to identify are genuine My Little Pony accessories. Although this page DOES NOT show every My Little Pony accessory ever made, it does show a lot. Hopefully, it will help collectors figure out exactly what is MLP and what isn't.

Stickers

Let's start with something easy--stickers. My Little Pony stickers are easy to identify because they say "My Little Pony" on them and, of course, show a picture of a pony (with the pony's name.) Pretty hard to miss. Still, it's good to have an idea what they look like in case you see the edge of one buried in a box of junk at a garage sale.

The stickers above are "traditional" MLP stickers. They are round and puffy and originally came on a foam backing; however, the paper with the picture on it was often torn off the foam backing. As you can see, these stickers say "My Little Pony" at the top and the pony's name at the bottom. A rainbow borders the stickers. Note that Parasol's sticker has been blown-up to show details--Fireball's sticker is the actual size of one of these stickers.

Also note that Parasol is shown as being purple, not pink. Fireball, on the other hand, is shown to be pink instead of his real color, purple. Mistakes in colors are common on these stickers.Only three of Parasol's four hair colors are shown--green has been left out. This is normal for Rainbow pony stickers. The stripe in unicorns' hair is also sometimes left out. Symbols are never shown on these stickers.

After a few years, Hasbro left off making the puffy round stickers and began making "scented body stickers" instead. I never knew why they were called "body stickers"--I guess you were supposed to stick them on your body or something. Three are shown above in their actual size.

Anyway, unlike the puffy round stickers, these had a transparent background and were in various irregular shapes. The images above are from stickers stuck to a piece of notebook paper--that's why they appear rectangular; if you look closely, however, you can see the edge of the stickers--especially Water Lily's. These stickers did not say "My Little Pony" like the puffy stickers did, but did say the name of the pony, the year, and "Hasbro." As I recall, most or possibly all the body stickers smelled like grape.

Unfortunately, body stickers are almost impossible to find unless they are on the original backing or stuck onto something because they don't peel off easily after being stuck onto something, unlike the puffy stickers. Like the puffy stickers, symbols were never shown on these.

Brushes and Combs

Almost every pony ever made came with a brush or a comb (or both.) However, because many other toys (especially dolls) come with brushes, these MLP accessories are often passed up. Note that although I only show one example of each brush shape, the brushes and combs came in a variety of colors.

The brushes shown above are two of the first brushes ever made. The one on the left, the shooting star brush, came with the first unicorns and pegasi and was re-released for many years--at least until the Dance ‘n Prance ponies, and possibly even later than that. This particular shooting star brush is Moondancer's. The brush on the right, the flower brush, was released with the first earth ponies. It, too, was re-released for years--at least up to Year 9, when it was released with some of the Baby Rainbow ponies, and possibly until Year 10. This flower brush is Cotton Candy's. Both brushes are shown in their actual size.

The brush and comb above came with rainbow pony Skydancer; the brush was the same as the shooting star brush, but came with a rainbow sticker on it and the comb is just a plain comb (which matched the shooting star brush.) As far as I know, the Rainbow ponies were the only ponies who got a shooting star brush with a sticker. Other ponies might have gotten regular combs, though.

Of course, adult ponies weren't the only ones with brushes and combs. The teddy bear brush above first came with Baby Moondancer, and the other baby ponies had similar brushes. The duckie comb came later and was first used by the Beddy-Bye Eye Babies.

As far as I know, this brush and comb set came only with the Pretty Parlor and it's later incarnations (the Brush Me Beautiful Boutique). The brush is an unusual heart shape and has very thin bristles. The comb looks like a regular comb--but it's extra long. (Compare it to the Skydancer's comb above.) There was also a blue version of the extra long comb that came with the Pretty Parlor.

The Sea Ponies had their own special brushes, too. The shell brush came with the adult sea ponies and the fishy comb came with the Baby Sea Ponies. The adult sea ponies also had a special shell comb, but I don't have a picture of it.

Besides brushes and combs, Hasbro also made hair picks. Here are examples of the flower hair pick (first released with the flutter ponies) and sun hair pick. The flowers on the first hair pick were not always colored in.

Yet more combs. I'm not sure when these came out, but I know that a smiling moon comb came with Tootsie, so it was around in Year 3. The shooting star comb might have come out around the same time. It was definately available in Year 4, since this comb came with Fizzy.

This "fancy" brush and comb set came with the Brush 'n Grow ponies, but may have come with other ponies before the Brush 'n Grows were released. The brush definately belongs to Bouquet, who either came with the comb shown or a light blue comb.

Well, that's it for now, but I'll be adding more accessories eventually, including pictures of genuine MLP ribbons and baby toys . . . and more combs and brushes (no, these aren't all of them.) ^_~
