The North Shore Record Collectors Society was formed in 1994 by a group of jazz and dance band record collectors living on the North Shore of Auckland New Zealand. We hold frequent audio sessions, blindfold tests and auctions and undertake research on the history of jazz and dance bands in this country. Assistance is given to the country's premier historian and discographer, Dennis Huggard, whose quality publications are mentioned below. Auction List 1 (current as of September 5th 1999) is currently available to be viewed.
Some of our members are collectors of classical, operatic and ethnic recordings too, so we cater for the whole range of recorded sound until the advent of the CD technology, admittedly with the emphasis on SHELLAC.
We also hope to begin arranging concerts shortly, featuring some of Auckland's best "traditional" bands, especially the famous 1932 Orchestra, in which some of our members are past and present musicians. For the latest events happening within our club visit the Club News.
