2003-2004 NHL ALL STAR GAME AND FESTIVITIES
This years all star game was quite the site to witness. It all started on Saturday with the young guns game. P. Sauve of the Colorado Avalanche took home the MVP honours as he showed that he has a real future in net for the Avalanche. Some of the others players to mention were J. Lupul who pulled down a hat trick and N Zherdev who looked oh soo impressive. The West ended up pulling out the win on the shoulders of Sauve.

Then on Saturday night the stars were out in full force having a good time at the Skills Competition. The highlight of the night had to be the hardest shot competition. With shots of 102.2 respectively Sheldon Souray and Adrian Aucoin made everyone forget the fact that Al Macinnis wasnt't there. Jeremy Roenick went 4 for 4 in the accuracy portion of the event as the East beat the West 13-6.

Finally on Sunday it was on to the big game. To start things off right Mark Messier got an assist on a goal by Adrian Aucoin in the first period to set the all time assist mark in all star game history with his 14th assist. One of the interesting sideplots to all of this fun was the Booing of Todd Bertuzzi by the fans in Minnesota. When asked Bertuzzi replied"i just think its fun leaving an impression on people like that". Odviously Big Bert as he is known in NHL circles was having fun with it as he had 5 shots and 2 assists.

The real hero of the game was Joe Sakic, it didnt hurt any that he was put on a line with Marcus Naslund and the afore mentioned Bertuzzi. Sakic scored a goal in each of the 3 periods and was named the all star game MVP. Even with Joe's heroics the East prevailed over the West in the game 6-4.

I guess the real question that should be asked coming out of the all star game this year is not who won, or even who the mvp was but if there will even be an all star game next year.

SAKIC: 3 goals
MESSIER: Record setting night
