NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES
Well a brand new nascar season is about to get underway. Some of the faces will be farmiliar to you. The earnhart family has been a fixture in nascar for decades and it looks like dale earnhart jr is going to keep that trend going, with his win in one of the twin 125's. The other 125 was won by Elliott Sadler.
The nascar series has gone through some tremendous changes in the offseason, starting with its name. It is no longer known as the winston cup but as the nextel cup. There has been some very signifigant rule changes as well. There will be 26 races to start the season and then there will be a 10 race "chase for the championship". The last 10 races in the season will hold more point signifigance in the final outcome of the championship. The people that run nascar would like to see more interest in the season at the end as opposed to one guy running away with the championship with 15 races left. Last year matt kenseth had the championship all but sewn up without the final races and he only won 1 race.
Some people are thinking that the day will come when nascar will get to the point that they cannot fill all 43 spots for the nextel cup race. It is getting to expensive for some of the lower echelon teams to  get sponsorship. Their were only 45 cars brought to try and qualify for the field. One of the teams that will struggle to get sponsorship this year is johnny benson.

With all of the changes and problems that face the new nextel cup, nascar is still one of the most exciting sports to watch. At daytona you could go from 1st to 31st in a split second and that is what makes this sport exciting. With the top 10 for this years field are greg biffle who had the only spot sewn up last weekend with a top speed of 188.387.Starting 10 in grid are as follows
