A Special Fic Challenge:
The "Nightmares" Series

Recently, it occurred to me that a whole lot of stories could be written around the premise presented in the "It's A Wonderful Life"-esque  To Be/Not To Be episode-arc.  The basic idea is this:  "After the events in TB/NTB, Duncan finds that he is still connected to that alternate universe by whatever Powers That Be arranged to show it to him, seeing events in that world through dream-visions" (hence the "Nightmares" series name, for which I humbly thank fellow author and sib, Monica Schafer).  Naturally, I don't want to attempt this alone, so . . . here's the challenge, should you choose to accept it.

A work of any length, based in any era (past, present or future), using that pivotal question of "What if Duncan hadn't been there?"

The story does not have to be in dream-format, so to speak, since I can easily attach the "premise" to the beginning or on the index page itself.  The story can be based on an episode in the original series,  HL: The Raven, events in the  Endgame movie, a previously written fanfic, or something all new to which you can show two sides.  (Note: If episode or movie, please remember to attach spoiler warnings; if previously written fic, please provide a link.)
