Scribes of Scheherezade?

It's more than just making it sound pretty!  Scheherezade was one of the greatest storytellers in any set of mythology -- she saved a kingdom with her wisdom and cleverness, as well as her unending imagination.  (For a summary of this marvelous "framed-story", follow this link to an outside source.)

The source of the Archives' title, however, comes from a comment made by Deb Taylor after watching  Arabian Nights, ABC's excellent adaptation of the story in April 2000.  Deb pointed out, quite rightly from that portayal of the character, that by creating entire worlds from her fertile (and rather desperate) imagination Scheherezade was probably one of the first writers of "fanfic."

It is for this reason that the Library's Fanfic Archives were renamed in her honor: every writer, in some way, is connected to that legendary storyteller and so we are all her scribes, carrying on her tradition.  If you would like to join the group by submitting your own work to the Archives, click here for guidelines.
