For Martin
When a friend dies
A part of us dies too
Our eyes filling with tears
At a loss for what to do
When a friend dies
Our hearts become a heavy weight
The aorta squeezes tightly
Blood cannot circulate
When a friend dies
We stand in disbelief
Our minds cannot comprehend
There is so much grief
When a friend dies
Our loss is too much to bear
For no one can ever replace him
Or the wonderful times we shared
When a friend dies
We cannot feel the sunshine
We can only feel the rain
For healing takes time
When a friend dies
We know he is in a better place
Free of pain…held closely in G-d’s hands
But, oh, what we would give to once more see his face
