WOOD was born in Cumberland county, New Jersey, January 12, 1799; lived in Otsego, Madison and Oneida counties; was principal of the Waterville Academy in 1832; was graduated as a physician from Geneva in 1837; came to Walworth in 1839; was an early moved in school matters and served as town superintendent; in 1848 was defeated by George H. LAWN for assemblyman; elected over John W. BOYD, in 1851; defeated by Timothy H. FELLOWS in 1852; moved to Baraboo in 1856; died in 1868. He married Naomi DAVIS and had eight children, three of whom died in the county, while the others went with him from the county. Dr. WOOD was a collector of fossil remains and of mineral specimens.
