I am Brandy Lee, a 22 year old mother of two, living in Oklahoma, married to a wonderful man, Therman. I sell The Pampered Chef products, and stay home with my little girls, ages Brittani, 5 1/2 and Brooke 1 1/2.
I developed Peripartum Cardiomyopathy after giving birth to my youngest daughter Brooke in February 2000, but I wasn't diagnosed until June 24,2001 - after about 15 trips to the ER, and several more to several different doctors.
My main symptoms was chest pain and sweating. I literally thought I was having a heart attack every second of the day. Now I learn that my heart was just over worked, and the doctors rarely see cases of PPCM, so I was merely overlooked.
At diagnosis I was only 20 and had an Ejection Fraction of 30%. My heart was slightly enlarged. I started taking Metoprolol 12.5 2X per day and Zestril 5mg 2 X per day. I have never really been on a diuretic. I attended outpatient cardiac rehab for three months and that was literally the best thing I could have ever done. In December 2000 my EF was 40-45% and In April 2001 my EF was about 50%. I still have symptoms like crazy, but my attitude says oh well, at least I am alive to feel these symptoms. And I don't consider it suffering, because I am blessed to have this day, and every day. I want to make sure that I do my part in comforting others with this disease, so I am carefully putting together this website, so that I can assure that I have met my goal in comforting other women with this scary illness
