| YOUTHFUL OFFENDER STATUS SHOULD ...NOT... BE ALLOWED IN CASES OF VIOLENT CRIMES !!!!!! If my son picks up a weapon and kills or injures someone to act like a big man, then he should be ready to take the punishment that fits the crime. Youthful offender status was designed to keep kids who shoplifted a candy bar or a new toy from going to an adult prison. How many times have we read in the newspaper, seen on the news or on the police reality shows, where a kid commits a felony and says "I'm only a juvenile, I'll be out in 6 months and do it again." How would you feel if you went to work one day, leaving your 2 little girls under the age of two, in the care of your 14 year old sister/babysitter. Later you get called at work and are told that because your sister was mad at you she put cleaning fluids in their milk and made them drink it. How would you feel if she got YOUTHFUL OFFENDER STATUS, and was given 7 months (Time Served while on trial) and would have her records sealed so there would be no criminal records. THIS JUST HAPPENED IN SYRACUSE NEW YORK... How would you feel? Every day we watch our sons/daughters rush out the door on their way to school. HUNDREDS OF THEM EVERY WEEK NEVER COME HOME. You hear on the news that some kid shot up his school (your child’s school) You rush down to the school and are held back a block away by police. You can see ambulances and hundreds of police with big guns running into the school. Then the police push you back even further to let a van in. The sign on the van says CORONER. An hour later a police officer comes up to and says "Mrs. XYZ?” You say “Yes?” They say “Would you come with me please?” Then, while you are trying to cope with the funeral, a reporter comes on the TV and says that the teenager, who has killed your child and others, is going to be tried as a Youthful Offender and no matter what they will be free at age 18. HUNDREDS OF OUR CHILDREN are being beaten by gangs, stabbed, shot, or killed EVERY DAY by youths.Adults and gangs use kids to commit crimes because they will be free at 18, even if they are caught. Your child may be dead or maimed and the one who did it is walking free with the chance to do all the things your child will never do!!!!! WE MUST CHANGE OUR LAWS TO HELP DETER SOME OF THESE YOUTH CRIMES AND MAYBE EVEN SAVE OUR OWN CHILDREN!
