THE GREATEST GIFT
Somebody once told me
That the greatest gift is love
But I was just a little girl,
And that's not what I dreamed of.
At the time I wanted tea sets,
And a teddy bear to hold,
But soon my wants were fading,
My dreams changed as I grew old.
And then I understood
That the greatest gift of all
Was to love someone completely
Not a child's baby doll.
So here we are at Christmas,
You wonder what you should give me
But the only gift I want this year
Can't be found under a tree.
I want another year
Of loving everyday
And a promise that our love
Will never fade away.
I want us to be happy
and celebrate our family,
And for everyone to see true love,
When they look at you and me.
I promise that I'll love you
For as long as I shall live,
And I know now that I'm older,
That's the greatest gift to give.
