Mihai Popean Official Webring Site
Romanian composer Mihai Popean received degrees from Universitatea de Vest of Timisoara, Romania (B.M.) and Bowling Green State University in Ohio (M.M.). His teachers include Marilyn Shrude, Mikel Kuehn, Elainie Lillios, Remus Georgescu and Constantin Ripa. His works and performances encompass a wide range of musical genres, and have been featured on many TV and radio stations in Romania. Popean’s works have received significant awards and performances (Bowling Green State University Concerto Competition 2008 Winner, The University of Toledo's Piano Competition 1st Prize in 2007, 1st Prize in the 2001 Eugene Ionesco International Theatre Festival, The Metal Fan Gala Special Prize of Jury in 1992,) and were featured in music festivals such as Ohio Northern (2008), Heidelberg College (2007) and the University of Toledo (2007). Other honors include Eau Claire High School “Teacher of the Year 2006-2007”, the Eau Claire Community Council “Educator of the Year 2006”, and several nominations for Who’s Who Among American Teachers. Between 2001-2006 he was the orchestra director and piano teacher at Eau Claire High School in Columbia, South Carolina. Currently, he is pursuing a doctoral degree in contemporary music at Bowling Green State University where he studies under Marilyn Shrude.
