| -B) Steps must be taken immediately to have the apparatus put into working order, and when the failure has been remedied and the apparatus, after being tested in accordance with Regulation 27, is again in working order, the driver of the next train allowed to proceed through the section must be cautioned and supplied with a notice on Form 4810 intimating hat that the train carrying this notice will be the last train operating on the Time Interval System through the section, and he must also be instructed to stop at the next signal box and hand this notice to the signalman. The signalman receiving this notice must give the ‘Train Out of Section’ signal in accordance with Regulation 10, and the ordinary method of signalling resumed. –When the train is worked by two engines in front or is assisted by an engine, or engines, in rear, the notice must be shown to all drivers on the train, and carried by the rearmost driver. -C) When a signalbox which has been switched out of circuit is being opened, the signalman must be advised by the signalman on either side by speaking instrument, or other means, that the block instruments, bells or gongs are out of order, or that a failure has been remedied but normal working not been resumed. The signalman so advised must act in accordance with clause (A) or (B) as may be necessary. If trains are being worked in accordance with clause (A), paragraph (iv), the signalman on either side of an intermediate box due to open must not decrease the existing time interval between trains until he has definitely ascertained that that such intermediate signalbox has been opened. –When a signalbox is due to be closed during a failure of the block instruments, bells or gongs, and special authority is given to close, the signalman must carry out the provisions of Regulation 24 so far as they apply. -D) When the block instruments, bells or gongs fail and there is a level crossing in the section provided with block indicators, bells or gongs, but is not a block post, the signalman, if telephone communication with the crossing is available, must inform the person in charge of the crossing that the block indicators, bells or gongs, as the case may be, are not in working order. –If there is no telephonic communication with the crossing, or the telephone has failed, the signalman must instruct the driver of every train proceeding in the direction of the crossing during the failure to approach the level crossing cautiously, to sound the engine whistle an be prepared to stop short of any obstruction at such crossing. The time interval must be extended sufficiently to allow for the additional time likely to be occupied in carrying out this instruction. –When it is known that the electrical communication at a level crossing is not in working order the distant signals (if such are provided) protecting the crossing must be kept at caution until information has been received that the communication is again in working order. –If distant signals are not provided, great care must be taken to ascertain, as far as possible, that no train is approaching in any direction before the gates are opened to the public. -E) When trains are being worked in accordance with clause (A), paragraph (iv), all trains must be brought within the protection of the home signal as promptly as possible, and to obviate a train standing with its rear portion outside the home signal, the signalman must, unless he has ascertained from the driver that he is in possession of the train staff, obtain the assistance of a hand signalman provided with the necessary detonators and hand signals, who must be sent out to a sufficient distance from the rear of the train to afford protection. Until this hand-signalman has been provided, a train must not be detained outside the home signal to attach or detach traffic. |

| 26) Recording Time when Signals are Sent and Received. -A) Except where instructions to the contrary are issued, the time at which all signals are sent and received must be recorded legibly with a pen in the Train Register Book, and the signalman on duty must place his name immediately under the last entry made by him on finishing duty. -B) If an incorrect entry be made, a line must be drawn lightly through it, and the correction made above or below it, so that the original entry may be clearly seen. -C) In recording the time that signals are sent and received, fractional parts of a minute that are less than half-a-minute must not be counted, and the half-minute and fractional parts more than half-a-minute must be reckoned as a minute, thus: 15¼ minutes must be entered as 15 minutes, and 15½ minutes entered as 16 minutes. -D) It is only necessary to record the hour figure in connection with the first entry in that particular column for that particular hour, and at the top of the columns on each page, the minutes only being shown in the case of other entries, for example: - “Is Line Clear?” sent. “Is Line Clear?” accepted. 10.30 10.30 50 50 11.24 11.24 |

| 27) Testing Block Instruments, Bells and Gongs. (16 consecutively). -This signal must be used to ascertain whether the instruments, bells or gongs are in perfect order, and only when no train has been signalled. Where the bell or gong instrument is separate the signalman at the box in advance after acknowledging the bell or gong signal must test the block instrument by moving the block indicator in the proper sequence a few times, and the signalman in rear must acknowledge each movement by one beat on the bell or gong. |

| 28) Time signal. (8-5-5). -Signalmen receiving this signal on the speaking instruments (see Rule 33) must communicate the information with the signalboxes which do not receive it on the speaking instruments, by giving the “Time” signal on the bell. Signalmen must regulate their clocks accordingly. |

| 29) Lampman or Fog-signalman Required. (9-5-5). -At boxes where a Lampman or Fog-signalman cannot be communicated with by the signalman on duty, and there are no speaking instruments on which to send the communication, the signal ‘Lampman of Fog-signalman Required’ must be given to the box where the man required can be communicated with. The Signalman receiving such signal must at once inform the Station Master in order that the necessary assistance may be given. |

| 30)Testing Controlled or Slotted Signals. (5-5-5-5). -SIGNALS THAT ARE CONROLLED OR SLOTTED FROM ANOTHER SIGNALBOX MUST BE TESTED AS SOON AFTER THE SIGNALMAN CHANGE DUTY AS THE RUNNING OF THE TRAINS WILL PERMIT. THE SIGNALMAN IN CHARGE OF THE CONTROLLED OR SLOTTED SIGNAL, AFTER RELEASING THE LEVER SO FAR AS HE IS CONCERNED, MUST GIVE 20 STROKES ON THE BELL (THUS: 5-5-5-5) TO THE SIGNALMAN TO THE SIGNALMAN AT HTE SIGNALBOX FROM WHICH THE SIGNAL IS CONTROLLED OR SLOTTED. THIS MUST BE REPEATED, AND THE SIGNAL LEVER WORKED THREE TIMES SLOWLY. EACH SIGNALMAN MUST MAKE AN ENTRY IN HIS TRAIN REGISTER BOOKOF THE TRANSACTION, AND F THE WIRE WORKING THE SLOT NEEDS ADJUSTING, THE SIGNALMAN GOING OFF DUTY MUST WALK TO THE OTHER SIGNALBOX AND SEE IT PUT RIGHT, UNLESS HE CAN GET THIS DONE BY SENDING BA MESSAGE ON THE SPEAKING INSRUMENT OR OTHERWISE. CONTROLLED OR SLOTTED IGNALS MUST NOT BE TESTED AFTER THE 'IS LINE CLEAR?' SIGNAL HAS BEEN RECEIVED FOR A TRAIN ON THE LINE TO WHICH THEY REFER. |

| 31) Parallel Lines. -With reference to Regulations 12,12A, 14, 17, 19, 20 and 22, where there are parallel running lines, the necessary steps must be taken to stop or caution the trains running on any lines that mat possibly be obstructed by what has occurred. 32) Mixed Trains. -Trains conveying passengers and goods must be signalled and dealt with as passenger trains. |
