Locomotive No.3 "Sgt. Murphy"/"Lancelot".
This 25-year-old Archangel was very kindly domated to me by Roger Thompson during the summer of 2002. The state of this locomotive was very good considering its age; when I got round to steaming it up it ran well for a 25-year old loco, albeit quite jerky (nothing to do with the fact that it has a single cylinder which is not geared down to the axle). A visit to PPS Steam Models and a complete overhaul later in time for the November show at Exeter it ran like a dream. I had it going twice and even Tag Gorton commenmted on how well she was running. Painted in maroon and having only one un-geared cylinder controlled by slip-eccentric valve gear make this locomotive very unpredictable and full of character. The boiler will last for over an hour (3/4 full) and the meths tank holds sufficient fuel for upto 20 mins without checking.
