SURVIVING THE EMERGENCY STAGE
- Don't try to hurt of kill yourself
- Remind yourself that you're not going crazy....you're going thru a natural part of the healing process
- Find people you can talk to....and get support from other survivors
- Allow yourself to think about the abuse as much as you need to
- Drop any responsibilities that aren't essential
- Get out of dangerous or abusive situations
- Sit tight and ride out the storm...your thinking isn't that clear now.
- Unless you are in danger....this is not a good time for major changes.
- Develop a belief in something greater than yourself....Spirituality can give you hope and strength
- Talk to people who are further along in their healing
- Do as many nice things for yourself as possible.
- Watch your intake of drugs and alcohol
- Get out of abusive situations.
- Sit tight and ride out the storm.
- Remind yourself that you are brave.
- Remember to breath.
- Remember: This too shall pass.

Some More Suggestions
I find that these suggestions are also very good for those who are grieving......may it strengthen all those who read these words by Ellen Bass and Laura Davis....and apply them to your life where they fit.....be kind to yourself......also visit alternative healing for more info on sexual abuse...
As a survivor of child sexual abuse, you have a lot to grieve for...the way you were hurt...not being protected, for the things you missed out on as a child...for the relationships and happiness you have lost... You must also grieve for the shattered image of a world that is fair and safe for children...You will grieve for your lost innocence and ability to trust. The way to move beyond grief is to experience your pain fully and honor your feelings...When you face your feelings and they are met with caring and compassion, they change.
