Murder at the Loft
Join amateur sleuth Helen Lawson as she solves another murder in the small town of Bridgeville
Maggie Nichols & Valerie Young now own The Loft, a bookstore located in the ill-fated building that once housed the corner ice cream parlor. Determined to lose the stigma attached to their shop by the murder of the former proprietor, Maggie and Valerie are having the interior redesigned. Then, Maggie's mother, amateur sleuth Helen Lawson, discovers the body of Mayor Ralph Weaver at the construction site and word of the "jinx" quickly spreads.
Chief of Police, Sam Owens, quickly zeros in on a suspect, local realtor, Lee Schell, who had a definite grudge against the mayor. In spite of mounting evidence, Helen is not sure of Lee's guilt and launches her own investigation. Soon, she discovers that there were many dark secrets lurking beneath the surface of Ralph Weaver's life. But, can she unearth the truth before there is another murder?
Helen moved across the newly refinished wooden floor. She advanced toward the back of the shop intending to start a pot of coffee and heat some water for tea. Then, like a chill up her spine, the feeling that something was off struck her. What was it? Something is missing, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
In a moment it came to her and she stopped in mid-stride and looked up again. "Where is the new railing?" She saw a section of splintered wood hanging over the edge of the loft. Quickly, Helen rounded the counter then came to an abrupt halt.
"Oh my, not again," she muttered as she looked down at the crumpled body of Mayor Ralph Weaver.
