Term/Acronym Definition
Burnishing A style that is common in color pencil, because the finished piece becomes very smooth taking out the natural rough surface of the paper. The colors also blend and become polished.
Commission 1. The act of granting certain powers or the authority to carry out a particular task or duty. 2. A fee or percentage allowed to a sales representative or an agent for services rendered.
Landscape A Landscape is an art piece that takes a scene from nature. This could be an open field, a mountain scene, or even waterfront.
Mixed Medium An art piece that uses more than one medium. For example, a color pencil and water color painting. Another may be mixing water color and acrylic white paint, made famous by modern French artists, called water color opaque.
Monochromatic An art piece that is done entirely of one color, or shades of one color. For example, a picture that is done all in shades of blue, or all in shades of red. Similar to a black and white photo, however, in color.
Piece A Piece, is any singe, whole, art presentation. It could be a painting, drawing, sculpture, or even a photograph.
Pointelism A style of artwork that uses dots instead of lines. It could be in the form of paint, or ink. Typically these art pieces take significant amounts of time to complete due to the complexity. A famous example of this would be the famous painting, "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by George Seurat. See here for more information and examples.
Portrait An art piece that takes the image of people into art. This could be in many forms, or methods.
Still Life A Still Life is an organization of objects to create an art piece. An example would be the classic bowl of fruit, or a table and bottle of wine.
