The church was organized July 9, 1804 with the first members being Abraham Mayfield, John Wood, Anne Mayfield, Millie Hendrix, Sarah Hendricks, Alice Wood, Rebecca Wood and deacons John Westmoreland and William Hendrix.
Abraham Mayfield was elected as the first church clerk in 1811.
The church met in 1814 and decided to petition the Baptist Association for a pastor. William Hendrix and Abraham Mayfield contributed to buy the minutes of the Association.
In 1832 Rev Elias Rogers was elected pastor and Alfred Dean was ordained as a deacon.
In 1840 Nimrod Arnold was elected Treasurer with Aaron Arnold, deacon.
The church suffered a great loss when the original history of the church written by Nimrod Arnold, David Ross, and Darling Rogers was not recorded on the books. It was delivered to the church to be read at the July meeting in 1843.
During 1850 - 1853, Reverend Henry Wood was pastor.
Among those baptised were Thomas and Damie Arnold.
Some Civil War casualties of the church:
Zaddock Rogers died at Citadel Hospital in Charleston, S. C. on August 4, 1862 of camp fever.
James Rogers died at his home of camp fever on September 3, 1862.
James Arnold died at Old Episcopal Church Hospital at Warrenton, VA of camp fever on September 13, 1862.
Sanford Vandiver Rogers died October 31, 1864 in Elmira Prison, Elmira NY of disease.
Aaron Arnold was a pios retiring man who was deacon of the church for many years. His son Nimrod Arnold was also a deacon for many years. He was a man of high character and a devout Christian. He was very strict in his daily living, holding daily family worship from early in life until his death in 1862 from smallpox.
Other pastors of the church included Rev. John Rogers and Rev. J. G. Wood.

Nora Arnold and husband P. H. Drummond, Lou Westmoreland and husband Matt Drummond, H. H. Arnold, Walker Rogers, Britie Arnold and husband Fowler, Lillie Rogers, and Mary Rogers.
Mr. Daniel Rogers bequested in 1896, money from his estate to be placed in a trust forever and ever to Green Pond Baptist Church. The money to be used to pay visiting preachers during revivals. The money is still being allocated at $50.00 a year.
