A PLACE IN MY HEART

There's a place in my heart where I go that's truly mine
That allows me at anytime to experience true joy when I need to unwind
It doesn't judge me the way others have all my life
Nor does it make me feel any shame, quilt, disappointment, misery or strife
It doesn't call me heartbreaking names
The kind that usually make me do self-destructive things
The message my heart keeps saying that is so real
Is to heal and feel because there is a place in here to deal

Now when I voice my concerns in an effort to improve myself
If I have visited my heart, the self-defeating words have been put on the shelf
This even takes the edge off some of my self-destructive actions
You know the ones that causes a person to think about those dreadful moments in fractions
As I take action to solve these polarized times, the burdens sometimes frustrates me and gives me so many sleepless nights
Because I have floored myself with the blinding, blank notions of fright
This causes me to ignore the hurtful truth that I seem to deny
No wonder so many people think I'm depressed as I constantly sigh

I AM MY MOTHER'S CHILD

How can you see my greatness and help nurture me back to life AFTER those following the status quo tells me something is wrong with my life's approach?
Why do you stand so firmly by my side AFTER you've taught me the best way that you knew how to become independent but in a heart beat you will give to me with your dying breath?
Where do you find the strength to let your own struggles go to see what you can do to help me?
When do you know that I have had enough with my issues, concerns and disappointments?
What makes you stand firmly rooted in my corner, when you know the world habitually ignores or labels me with a new system or process of the learning curve?
Who knows me better than you, even if I don't tell you what situation I've encountered that has tested my will, compromised my thoughts or liberated my soul, even when others can find no Earthly use for my existence except as a servant because I don't embrace their understandings about Human Nature?
Even when I go through my trials and tribulations, you have the patience to listen to me.  That is when I know that your energy surrounds me and I will not falter no more.

MY TRUE NATURE

I AM a being who wishes, dreams and believes that something can be made out of nothing; the true definition of development
I AM a human first filled with genuine compassion for all living creatures
I AM a person who sees the struggle is for real each and every moment
I AM a woman of color who identifies with similar roles as other females (wife, mother, sister, aunt, girlfriend, nurturer, healer, etc.)  But one forgets, I AM also the giver of life."  So when a man dies, life will continue; but when a woman dies, a whole generation is lost.
I AM concerned about what happens in this world because I AM here; existing
I AM conscious of the many obstacles that sometimes impede my journey
I AM aware of various definitions that are placed upon me without my voice in the matter
I AM thinking about the moment when this world turns from clandestine necrophilic plans to liberators of a free world.  Just imagine, what would it be like in a TRUE moral society where ALL genders and groups of people could walk around without any fear or martial laws and no one commits a crime?  That's the day that I would truly say is HEAVEN ON EARTH!

Painting The Sky Purple

The graceful movements in a woman's life creates works of art
Her inner vibrations may instantly embrace someone in a tender hug or kiss
Her melodious gestures may emit heartfelt blessings
Her harmonious rhythm may possess a zestful spirit
Her energy creates deeper shades of affectionate amethyst or passionate plum.

The heavenly tilt of her head is ever changing because she never looks back
Her intelligence is appreciated because she understands a greater sense of knowing
Her wisdom is profound because it runs deep as still waters
Her God-given talents is celebrated in her independence
Her insight attracts the gifts of hope shaded in majestic mauve or vivacious violet.

The atmosphere within her presence is much deeper than any lilac or lavender scent
Her prayers transcend universal forgiveness for all
Her desires focus on simple abundance
Her wishes radiate joyful times
Her impression of life is filled with whimsical wines and intriguing indigoes.

The journey she travels is filled with many mysteries
It is in the word destiny she knows the song in her heart is exquisite
It is in the expression inner beauty she impresses on the world fascinating images
It is in the statement twinkling of an eye she sparks an eternal flame
Her persona is painting a canvas with sassy sapphire and classy cobalt watercolors.

A SADD AFFAIR

excerpts taken from Chapter 1 an unpublished manuscript

"Pooh Pooh, pick up!  This is Jessica!  I need a BIG favor!  Mommie is tripping big time this time.  She won't let me go and you are her favorite nephew.  I need you to back me on this one.  Pooh Pooh, you there?  Okay, when you get this PLEEZE call...collect of course...on my phone."

Perry played the message for the fourth time and went to set the table for dinner.  He was truly exhausted tonight.  He was getting ready for this big hair show and he just couldn't concentrate because his mother and aunt were at it again.  He just couldn't understand how identical twins could be so much alike on the outside but so different on the inside.  ....

His mother, Ms. I'm-Not-From-The-COUNTRY, had threatened the whole shop again about not going to the annual hair show.  She showed her flamboyant peacock tailfeathers today.  Ms. Drama Queen went on and on about everyone in the shop spending too much on unnecessary products and too little time on perfecting bumping hair and nail styles.  Now her twin, Aunt NonNa, the conservative type on top of that, saw it different.  She thought the shop didn't spend enough on the proper equipment to produce the latest styles.  :Now something was up there.

.... Jessica thought her mother, Aunt Baby, was the trip.  His mother took the cake.  He knew God had played a trick on him with his mother.  All his life his mother acted more like his cousin than his mother and his aunt Tiye was his mother.  She practically raised him.  She decided to drop out of grad school and took on the burden of raising him while his mother enjoyed the finer things in this life that Fishhead Holla, Alabama could offer.  ....  Now she was back in school trying to finish her degree and he had to finish dinner before she came home.

.... After checking the cornbread, Pooh Pooh went back to the task of completing dinner.  His thoughts drifted back to his mother.  The only time he saw her was when she wanted to share her words of wisdom about how badly Aunt Tiye was raising him.  Funny thing though she never, ever hinted that she would take him back especially when it got out about his ways.  ....  His mother acted as if he didn't exist.

.... Well, it didn't help when Aunt Baby tried to bring some reasoning to the whole affair.  She had shrink collegues that dealt with this type of circumstance.  Pooh just thought Aunt Baby had a much open mind since she lived in San Francisco and it was more acceptable there than in Fishhead Holla, Alabama.  His frequent visits to San Francisco were always fun packed especially with Aunt Baby and Uncle Richard.  He was so happy Uncle Richard gave him passes to fly there and he got along with his cousins RJ and Jessica.

Perry decided he would speak to Aunt Tiye first before he called Jessica back.  By the time the pound cake was cooling, he heard voices coming through the front door.  Perry met them in the hallway and greeted his Aunt Hattie.

He as well as all his aunts loved Aunt Hattie, short for Hatshepsut.  She was their rock since their parents death.  ....  Pooh Pooh was glad for the distraction from his thoughts.  As they set down for dinner, his Aunts were discussing this year's family barbeque.

.... Aunt Hattie asked, "Perry sweetie.  I've been out of the loop for a while and I'm trying to catch up.  How's your mother and NeeKa getting on these days?"  The roll of his eyes before commenting "The usual" told them volumes.  "Well sweetie, I just hope they are better by this year's barbeque.  I can't be doing this by myself and I need everyone's help."

"I talked to Cleo and she's agreed to come a week early.  Aset sees no problems in pitching in.  I haven't got a definite from Baby because she mentioned she may have to cut her visit short for something her job wants her to do in France.  Tiye I know you do so much.  I'm just wondering if NonNa and NeeKa will get it together by then?"

....Perry looked at his Aunt Hattie as she shook her head and offered to help clear the dinner dishes.  He hoped that she wouldn't worry too much about making everyone feeling right at home this year.

The question he wanted to know:  Would they all get together this year?  ....  Seven Sisters...he remembered how he would hear, "Here comes the Sadds Hatshepsut, Bathsheba, Nefertiti, Nefertari, Tiye, Aset and Cleopatra.  ....  Now ain't that a blip...sounds like they are all over the place with those names.  Don't know whether they are coming or going.  ....

Perry knew their glue, "A family that prays together; stays together."
