The Healing Forest Model

The Healing Forest is a model for community and organizational change. It is based on the idea that if you take a sick tree out of a sick forest, make it well and then return it to the sick forest, it will sicken and die.

The reason for this is that the root system of that forest -community- is filled with anger, guilt, shame, and fear. Each of these emotions contributes to the sickness that is called dysfunction. Dysfunction is a characteristic of many individuals, families, communities, organizations, and even nations.

The Healing forest model works with individuals to change their thinking and their value systems to replace the fear based system of anger, guilt, and shame to a love based system of hope, unity, forgiveness, and healing. Once individuals change their thinking patterns, they can change their families, which in turn will change communities and organizations and ultimately, nations.

The Healing Forest Model is an 18 month intervention that a whole community works on together.
Four Phases of The Healing Forest Model

Phase 1: Recognize Sometimes we are in dysfunction for so long, we think it is normal. The key to discovering "normal" is to compare what is going on to the principles, laws and values of the Earth. If what is going on is in harmony, then keep doing it. If it is out of harmony, it will be dysfunctional and cause anger, guilt, shame and fear.

Phase 2: Acknowledge, Once you can see the dysfunctional behavior, you need to admit it (get out of denial) and acknowledge, yes, we have these problems. The key to solving the problem is to be able to say, "We own it!"

Phase 3: Forgive, Forgive means to be willing to let the behavior go and be willing to replace it with something else which is in harmony with the principles, laws and values.

Phase 4: Change, The Change is the vision of the correction.
