| What did Lewis & Clark's Travel's Discover in Relationship to Western Expansion? Rivers: Missouri, Snake and Columbia Mountain ranges: Rocky Mountains, Bitteroot Range, Cascade Range and the Coast Range Other natural features: The Great Plains, Great Falls, rain forests, the Pacific Ocean and up and down small and large streams. In addition, they introduced us to new Native American Indian cultures, unique wild life, food and plants. They were also successful in processing maps that opened up the expansion of the American West. The first to follow Lewis and Clark in exploring the American West were the Mountain Men.
