Chapter 13: The Battle of Irania

...............

Selena leaped onto her feet on the saddle as the soldier drew near. Just as the horses were about to meet, Selena jumped off her horse and knocked the soldier to the ground. The soldier threw her off him and quickly came unto his feet. Selena, too, flipped onto her feet, the sword ready in her hand.

"I have heard of the Black Crusader," the solider sneered. "I never would have imagined I would meet you in battle."

"I am honored that you think so highly of me," Selena replied.

"I will be the one to cut down the Black Crusader and all the realms will be at peace once more."

Selena smiled wickedly. "It is you that will die this night, not I."

The soldier sharply swung his sword as Selena brought up her sword to block the blow. The soldier swung again, but this time, Selena ducked and thrust her open palm to his stomach. A burst of energy sent the soldier sailing through the air.

Sensing someone behind her, she twirled around and brought up her sword to block the oncoming attack. She was surprised to see a very large, muscular man. He swung again. Selena blocked the attack, but it brought her to her knees from the sheer force behind the blow. She grunted with effort as she tried to push the sword away so she could get to her feet.

The soldier used his strength to push her to the ground, then leaped on top of her, causing Selena to lose the grip on her sword. The man rose his sword, ready to strike her chest. "Die bitch, die!"

Just before the sword pierced her heart, Selena brought up her hands and held the sword between them. She grunted with effort as she felt the strength flowing down the sword. If she didn’t get this man off her soon, she would die.

Mumbling a quick spell, Selena felt the strength in her arms grow tenfold. Crying with renewed strength she easily cast the soldier’s sword to the side, jumped to her feet, and threw a right upper cut, causing the soldier to stumble backwards. Seizing this opportunity, Selena round-housed the enemy, followed by a quick punch to the gut. She quickly seized her sword and thrust it viciously in his chest.

Surprised by her great strength and agility, all the soldier could do is cough up blood as Selena twisted her sword inside his chest, cutting off all blood flow to his heart. Satisfied with her kill, she thrust out her sword and let the dead man fall to her feet.

Selena did not have the time to enjoy her little victory, however. Two more men came upon her and attacked with ferocity. Using her great warrior skills, she blocked a blow to her right, then the next one that followed at her left. She danced around the swords, twirling in graceful circles, blocking the high and low attacks with her sword.

This continued for a while as Selena began to tire. She knew that this is what the two men were hoping for. If she didn’t change the pace soon, she would get sloppy, and being sloppy gets you killed. She did notice, however, that the men were also beginning to tire. Here’s my chance she thought.

As a sword came crashing towards her head, she dropped to her knees and held her sword above her to block the other oncoming blow. The soldiers, a little surprised by the sudden change in her tactics, didn’t know what was coming next.

Selena, using her flexibility, balanced herself with her left hand and used her left foot to kick the soldier to her left in the groin. As the man doubled over in pain, Selena immediately got to her feet, brought down her sword to waist level, and twirled, slicing the man to her right in half. As the blood poured out from the deep cut, Selena viciously booted the man to ground. Sensing the presence behind her, she twirled the sword in her hand, ducked, and thrust the sword behind her.

She smiled as she felt her sword rip through flesh. After a brief moment, she thrust her sword out from the man’s stomach and turned to face her dead enemy. The man coughed up pints of blood at her feet. Selena smiled wickedly, "Enjoy your time in the after life." With a cry, Selena sliced the man’s head off his shoulders.
