One of the most remarkable planetary nebula, NGC 6543 is
the remnant of a dying star. Also known as the Cat's Eye Nebula, its eerie halo
and filaments are material that the central star cast off thousands of years
ago, according to astronomers. This color-enhanced image, which depicts nitrogen
in reds and oxygen as greens and blues, comes from data from the Nordic Optical
Telescope in the Canary Islands.
