Hi and welcome to Hawk's Nest Pigeon Lofts. We are a pigeon loft that competes in pigeon racing in North Carolina. We are members of the VGWF Club, North Carolina Coastal Plains Combine, I-85 Combine, and the Greater North Carolina Concourse.
Hawk's Nest Loft is on the long end of the concourse about 70 miles off the line of flight. Although we fly a small team, we are competitive in our area. Our club has a flyng membership of 10 flyers and an I-85 combine membership of about 25 flyers.
We fly two different families. The first Family are birds that are mainly a cross of Hanssene and Gurney's. The Hanssene and Gurneys were gifts from a true friend and fellow pigeon flyer, Danny Macchia. Danny is the most important thing that ever happened to Hawk's Nest Lofts.
The Hanssene's are a family of birds that have done very well for Danny. The Gurney's are birds from a family cultivated by the late Lou McElroy. Street Rats loft has won just about every combine and concourse award there is to be won with this family. Street Rats Loft not only has done well with the birds here in Noth Carolina but also did very well up in New York on Long Island. We have many of the foundation breeders that propelled Street Rats loft to the top for so many years.
The Stichelbauts are from the loft of Parksdon Family Loft. After obtaining several pair I was convinced that the future of Hawkznest Loft was going to be linked forever more with these great distance birds. We now have 10 pair that we will be breeding from in the 2003 breeding season. Parksdon Family Loft has obtained many of his breeders from Waldo Slie who is one of the best breeders in our sport. 60 % of the old bird team contains birds that are straight Stichelbaut.
Our young bird team has 3 distint groups of birds. The Stichelbauts, the Hanssene/Gurney and the crosses of the 2 families. We will be posting our young bird results so that the world can see just how well these families do perform.
