Sumatran tigers are the smallest tigers alive today (with the Bali being the smallest but also being extinct). The male are 8-9 feet long and can reach a weight of 300 pounds. The female is 7-8 feet long with a weight of 240.

In 1978 there were 1,000 wild Sumatrans living amongst the wild. But due to Agricultural development their numbers have decreased dramatically in the last 22 years. Today there are 500 such tigers living in the wild. Four Hundred of them living in protected areas.
