Scrapper R.C.C.

by JJ Frederick (Famine), with additional help from Joe Devile (Wax)

The true name of the scrappers has been lost over the decades. The first sighting was over 40 years ago outside of Kingsdale in the cities landfill. The d-bees were left alone because they didn't seem to cause any problems, and kept to themselves. About 17 years after the first appearance, a scrapper came to town in a restored and modified truck. The Scrapper entered the Merchant's Plaza, set up shop and sold his wares. It seemed that all those years, the scrappers had been rebuilding junk and weapons.
They seem to have evolved from reptiles on their home planet, but the scrappers have no interest in history, only in tinkering, and collecting new treasures. When among themselves they speak Techno-can, but no one knows if this was picked up on their home planet or Earth. Over the last decade, many Scrappers have joined mercenary groups as operators so that they may scavenge over battle seines, and some have even joined in the battle with their own weapons. Several work for Roseta Industries as field reps and weapons designers. Scrappers can be thought of as pack rats, always collecting "treasures" in order to build their next project.

W.P.: Special, Scrappers get a bonus for any weapon that they build or modify personally equivalent to having a proficiency in that weapon. However, others using the weapon do not get the bonus and must rely on their W.P. skill, nor do scrappers get bonuses for weapons that they do not build.
Hand to Hand: Basic, can be upgraded at cost of one "other skill to expert.

Other skills: The non-psionic scrapper may select 15 other skills, and psionics 10 other skills from any category, except espionage or W.P. (see above), and two skills must be from mechanical and two from electrical.
Special Bonuses: Scrappers hands are very articulate, and they receive a +5% bonus on any skill that requires the use of hands(occ skills already have this figured in). Most scrappers have limited psionic powers(60%). Those that do have telamechanics, object read, and 2 sensitive powers of choice. Of the 60% who are Psychic, 2% are Psi-Techs! Those that do not are cyberneticaly/bionicly, augmented. Also, Scrappers do suffer the normal penalties when working on alien technology. Only those that rely on organic or Phase technology can not be worked on.
Equipment:Will have a vehicle of choice(any where from a modified suit of power armor, to a souped-up APC). Portable tool kit that includes an assorted set of screwdrivers, wrenches and sockets. Power tools such as, a cordless screw driver, laser torch, soldering iron are also common tools of the Scrapper. As much of the Scrappers work is done through jury-riging, the player character is also likely to have 1D4X100 rubber bands, a 50 foot (15.25 meters) roll of bailing wire, 1D4 rolls of duct tape, and 1D6 rolls of electrical tape. The character will also have a portable computer, 1D4 notebooks and pens, and 4D4X1000 credits worth of parts(the true treasure of a scrapper.)
Money: 4D6X100 credit
Weapons and Armor:Starts with 2 modified weapons of their design. Anything from a laser pistol/crossbow combo to a plasma rifle with a built in toaster. Players and GM's could have allot of fun with this one. The armor is also of their design and is mostly a patch work of various armors. They seem to have a fondness for old style Coalition armor and other armors covered with spikes.
Cybernetics: Those that have them will generally have a prehensile tale, eye and ear implant of choice, and a computer/calculator implant as well. All cybernetics/bionics are likly to be modified.
Note: Use operators experience table. The picture was made using Paint Shop Pro and blending a Dead Boy with a Gurgoyle.
