Earth Threatening News

This was brought to my attention by some wonderful and very concerned people known as the 'Gaiaguys' and they are willing to keep both myself and you updated on this very serious situation. Their site contains all the information they can provide for us. Please visit their site!

Pine Brush - a National Estate - in Trouble

Pine Brush, a national estate, is in trouble. What happened was, in 1993, 1217 acres of public land was falsely represented as worthless (even though it was a proposed Nature Reserve and had been classified by the Australian Heritage Commission - a federal government agency - as part of our Natural Heritage and made part of Australia’s National Estate) and "sold" privately. Since then various illegal activities have damaged it, but (this is the important bit!) the tiny (about 8 acres) remnant rainforest remains as yet untouched and perfect. But because of a government whitewash of what happened, this rainforest has been made to “disappear” on paper, and now is open to possible destruction by the private owner who cannot understand what is at stake.

We know it’s a very complicated saga, and hard to get across, (hence the size of the website!) but http://www.nor.com.au/users/gaiaguys/pbinnutshell.htm is a collection of many very short and simplified versions of the sad story. Also, the issue is primarily one of species extinction, as opposed to deforestation.
