The close-knit family includes father John Walton (Ralph Waite) and his wife Olivia (Michael Learned), and their children John Boy, Mary Ellen, Jim-Bob, Elizabeth, Jason, Erin and Ben. Grandparents Zeb (Will Geer) and Esther (Ellen Corby) serve as the family elders of this large and loving family, who together face the challenges of 1930s United States while living on Waltons Mountain.

Well that's about everything you ever needed to know about The Waltons Season 2 DVD set. The Waltons had made their mark in television by winning many awards during their first season, and it continued to demand attention with Season 2.
The opening episode, The Journey, was exquisitely written and Earl Hamner makes his one and only appearance in The Waltons, as Maggie's husband dancing with her during her reminiscing sequences. Linda Watkins, as the determined old woman who wanted to spend her final wedding anniversary at the seashore, and did her very best to make sure that John Boy would take her, was an absolute delight. It's a very special episode.
Jenny Pendleton (Sian Barbara Allen) makes a return visit to Waltons Mountain in wonderful two part episode, The Thanksgiving Story, and Sissy Spacek also reprises her role of Sarah Simmons when she returns to the mountain in The Odyssey.
Several well loved episodes also appear during this season, with Ron Howard, appearing as Seth Turner, always being mentioned among the fans favorites. This episode is just brilliant and tugs at the heartstrings each time it airs. We get to share the 50th wedding anniversary of Grandma and Grandpa as they celebrate their milestone with family and friends in The Heritage. The Ghost Story is another episode which fans always ask about, and yes, it appears on this DVD set too. Finally we get to go to John Boy's graduation ceremony as he graduates from high school, and prepares for his entrance into college in Season 3.
The Waltons received several Emmy nominations for this season, and indeed won Emmys for The Journey and The Thanksgiving Story. Michael Learned and Ellen Corby also won Emmys for this season. Overall Season 2 is The Waltons at its very best and not to be missed.
