| Overview- Exterior styling changed little from 1990. The bumpers and side moldings were toned down from the previous year and made a little more conservative. Other than that the general styling stayed the same 1991 was also the first year of the SOHC 4.6L V-8 engine which mated with the Automatic Overdrive 4-speed automatic transmission. The engine produced a SEA Net of 190 horsepower. Ford stated the 4.6 to be "the first product of a $750,000,000 corporate investment in engine technology." The car came in three models; the Executive, Signature, and Cartier designer series. The Executive was the base model which featured basic analog instrumentation and slightly plainer interior than other models. The comfort/convenience group which featured duel power seats, moonroof, and trunk lid pull down was an option as well as digital instrumentation and several other features. Leather seats were also optional on this model. The Signature was basically the Executive with all its options like the comfort group and digital instrumentation. Some features exclusive only to the Signature and Cartier like power recliner memory seats and an anti-theft system came as an option on the Signature. It featured different interior seating which was somewhat more plush than the executive which included higher seat backs and rear seat map pockets. The Cartier was the top of the line. It featured standard two-tone paint, all power options, and an exclusive interior which came in several trim options. It also featured an standard JBL audio system; a feature available only as an option on Signature and Executive. Conclusions/opinions/problems- A good year. Few mechanical problems exist with this year aside from the usual minor Town Car problems. The problem that exist with all 90-92 models is that the air suspension hoses are inproperly secured and may rub causing leaks. A main issue with this year is that they use the old R12 coolant for the AC and this can be costly to have re-fitted to fit todays standards. If buying one make sure an AC conversion has been made.
