Summery: A Christmas story on Voyager. Janeway and Chakotay are married but
Chakotay has passed away leaving Janeway alone and pregnant.

=/\=

Janeway is in her quarters. She used to share with her husband. Memories are coming
back as she looks around the room. Chakotay is everywhere she only wishes he survived
that shuttle crash.

"Chakotay, what am I going to do without you? I need you to be with me."

A chime pulls Janeway back to reality. She lets the person inside after she dries away
her tears that have fallen. She comes through the door dressed in her Starfleet uniform,
it's B'Elanna.

"I wanted to see how you were doing you left Chakotay's memorial service is such a rush."

Janeway runs into B'Elanna's arms and cries. B'Elanna places a hand on her back
and comforts her captain.

"Oh B'Elanna I don't know what to do. How can I go on without Chakotay? He is
my life I miss him so very much."

"You will, you have before. Now come on over and sit down. We can talk about it
maybe it will make you feel a whole lot better."

Janeway nods and both walk over to the couch.

The next day Janeway and B'Elanna are in Engineering they are working on
improvements to the warp core. Janeway suddenly becomes dizzy and sways before she
braces herself against the bar surrounding the warp core. B'Elanna sees her sway and
runs up to catch her before she falls. B'Elanna takes Janeway's arm and catches her
before she faints.

"Captain, are you alright?"

Janeway looks up into B'Elanna's eyes.

"I feel very faint."

Her eyes roll back and she falls back into B'Elanna's arms. She eases the captain
down to the floor of Engineering and taps her com badge.

"Torres to sickbay, Medical Emergency, two to transport directly to Sickbay."

"Aye Lieutenant, we will be waiting for you."

Blue lights appear and a flash they disappear. Within seconds they are both on
Sickbay's floor with the doctor hovering over the both of them.

"Let's get her to a diagnostic bed."

The Doctor takes Janeway into his arms and places her on a nearby diagnostic bed. She
is very pale and looks exhausted.

"Lieutenant, what happened to the captain?"

"I don't know, one minute she was fine and speaking to me. The next minute she called
me over to her and said she felt faint. The last thing I saw was her falling into my arms."

The doctor takes out his medical tricorder and runs it over Captain Janeway.

"Hmmm, has she been complaining about being ill lieutenant?"

B'Elanna for a moment recovers her memories over the last few days.

"I was with her all night she was upset and she was crying a lot. That was surprising
since she rarely cries in front of her crew members other than Chakotay. She said she
really wanted to have someone to talk to make her calm down a little. We didn't sleep all
night we instead talked about Chakotay. But she never mentioned she was ill in
anyway. Why?"

"She's pregnant B'Elanna, about six weeks; I don't think she knew because she has had
so much trouble with her cycles over the last few years I have been treating her. Her
ovaries don't release an egg or they rarely do. She comes into sickbay two weeks before
she is due for her next cycle last time she thought she was ovulating. She is also over
exhausted and with Chakotay gone now she could be endangering herself and the baby
she is carrying. She is bound to have bought of depression."

B'Elanna is surprised to hear that Janeway is having a baby. She new that if there
were two people who were always careful it was them?

"What are we going to do? When she hears she's pregnant she is going to become
depressed and that's not good for the baby either."

B'Elanna places her hand on Janeway's shoulder.

"She will need all the help she can get. Who is going to be there for her at this fragile
time Doctor?"

"I don't know all I know is that if Chakotay were alive he'd be here for her."

"Maybe she'll be just fine."

"Let's hope so."

"I'd better get back to Engineering. Let me know doctor if anything happens. Oh and I
would like to be here when she wakes up can I stay in sickbay tonight?"

"Yes, I set up a bed for you."

"Thank you Doctor."

Several hours later B'Elanna is in sickbay again laying on the bed the doctor has set up
for her. It is right next to the bed where the captain is laying in a sickbay gown. She
hears a groan from Janeway. B'Elanna jumps off her bed and moves over to Janeway
and places her hand on Janeway's hand across her abdomen.

"Doctor! She's coming too."

The doctor approaches the bed and as he gets there Janeway opens her eyes.

"Oh, hello Doctor, what happened why and I in Sickbay?"

B'Elanna leans over to Janeway.

"You got dizzy in Engineering and told me you felt faint next thing I know you fainted
in my arms."

"B'Elanna brought you here."

Janeway attempts to sit up but the doctor pushes her back down.

"Just rest, you've been here for eleven hours."

"Eleven hours? I have to get back to the bridge."

"Not know and not for at least a few days."

She attempts to get up again but this time is pushed down by B'Elanna.

"Oh, no Captain, you have heard the doctor besides I think Tuvok can handle the bridge
for now he is a Vulcan what could he do?"

"Alright, Doctor why did I faint? Before I felt dizzy I was great hadn't felt better in
days."

Doctor looks up at Torres who has her hand on Janeway's which is lying across her stomach.

"Captain, your expecting a baby."

Janeway wos shocked at first but soon she gasps and breaks into tears. She rolls over onto
her side. B'Elanna hand falls from Janeway and she remains sobbing.

"Are you sure Doctor, I mean we were up on our boosters."

Janeway remains to say as she gasps between gasps.

"Very sure, your test came back positive. The baby is due on Christmas Day."

"How far along am I exactly Doctor?"

"Six weeks."

"What am I going to do?"

Seven months later Janeway asked B'Elanna to come see her. Outside a few boughts
of depression Janeway has been doing surprisingly well. She still has morning sickness
but welcomes it with open arms. A chime comes at the door. Janeway is in her pajamas,
her quarters are decorated for Christmas already.

"Come B'Elanna."

The doors hiss open B'Elanna is also in her pajamas.

"You wanted me to join you for the evening."

"Yes, B'Elanna, please come in and Merry Christmas."

"Not quite Christmas yet Captain. But same to you too."

Soon B'Elanna is inside and both sit on the couch.

"You don't mind talking to me again do you 'Lanna?"

"No, actually I enjoy your company. With Tom on night duty now I kind of miss
talking to him in the wee hours of the morning."

"I want to ask you something, something very important."

"I kind of thought that's what you wanted. Otherwise you wouldn't have asked me to
come here in my pj's again. You should see the people stare as I walked down the
corridors in pj's and bare feet not that I am complaining or anything. It's nice not
wearing our boots and uniforms once and a while."

Janeway stretches out her left leg on the couch, and shifts position.

"I need to have a person with me while I'm having the baby. Chakotay would be there
for me but...he died. I wanted I need someone to be my coach during Lamaze and to help
me out."

"Captain are you asking me to be there for you during the birth?"

"Well yes, I mean if you don't mind It could be very educational."

"No, I don't mind that is fine. And I'd be honored to be your partner. Maybe someday
whey Tom and I have our first child you can be there for me, Tom may not make it."
But I must ask a personal request...Please I beg you do not break my hand I will
need it in Engineering."

Janeway and B'Elanna laugh in sync.

"Are you by any chance sickened easily?"

"Captain, I am part Klingon, Klingon's don't get sickened."

"I should have known. I want you to be the first person, well besides the Doctor and
Nurse, to hold the baby. I want you to bring Chakotay's son or daughter to me. And
tell me the sex."

"As long as you don't break my hand, If you don, I won't be able to hold it. Oh, and
one more thing... I will not cut the umbilical cord that is an honor only the father can
hold, oh sorry."

"Not that is fine you are right, besides the doctor can do that."

"Than it is a deal."

Yes, of course, now I want you to help me pick out the names we still haven't agreed on
the perfect on yet. You and Tom will be the Godparent's so I only bid that would be a
good gesture. Wouldn't you agree?"

B'Elanna nods.

"Yes, fine now I want to be with you from the moment labor begins. I want to be there
for every second of this baby's life. Just like Chakotay would have been. I feel it is
only right if he has the closest person there for his wife during the birth of his child."

"He would want that. And I will let you know when the first sign of labor starts."

"I will."

The End
