Tice, (also spelled Theis, Thyssen, Tyssen, Teiss, Deis, Dice) of Palatine origin, of or relating to "palace", "someone with power or wealth", or "royalty". Much of the information for this section comes from the book The Tice Families of America, by James Strode Elston, copyright 1947, published by The Tuttle Publishing Company, Inc (Rutland, VT). Having studied this information, I set out to verify everything. With the help of local historical societies, census and cemetery records, as well as libraries and municipalities, I have been able to verify everything recorded by Mr. Elston and have uncovered a variety of additional information. The first Tice family (probably using the Teiss spelling at that time) departed Glascow, Scotland in 1742 aboard a ship named The Thistle. They were next recorded to have arrived in the area now known as Myerstown, Pennsylvania, sometime in 1744, where they erected a home which still stands today.
