What is it? Kryptos is a piece of artwork located at the CIA Headquarters in Langley Virginia. It was created by the artist James Sanborn. The sculpture is fabricated with a sheet of copper, supported by a large section from a petrified tree. The copper is engraved with roughly 1738 letters. We believe the sculpture to contain four passages, three of which have already been decrypted. The last 97 letters of Kryptos remain unsolved. |
| Like alot of people, I discovered
Kryptos through Dan Brown's website (Author of "The Da Vinci Code"), and
have been somewhat obsessed with it and finding its
solution ever since. Why the obsession? I am not quite
sure, but I'm sure that after it's solved, I will most
likely lose interest in the sculpture. That isn't to say
I haven't benefitted from it. I have learned quite alot
since the day I discovered Kryptos. It has pushed me in
many different directions in my pursuit of it's solution,
and for that alone it is time well spent. I have been
working on cracking the last 97 letters of the Kryptos
since I first became aware of its existence sometime in
2003. I intend to post my progress in the hopes that my
ideas may inspire a solution if not by me then by someone
else. |

If you'd like to join a Kryptos group, there are two here worth
checking out:
My Kryptos group This is the group I created for all
types of brainstorming on
Kryptos and cryptography in general.
Elonka's group This is the MAIN Kryptos group, if
you have any interest in Kryptos,
then this is a group you have to check out.
Both groups contain tons of information on Kryptos and
encryption. If you're
new to encryption, you might want to check this page out first: Encryption
