Characteristics: Spoiled brat who loved everyone and never
in her life bit anyone out either fear or pain.
Trick : Farfel (German for little noodle), Was as stubborn as mule..... No was simply a "suggestion" to her. If she wanted something, it became her life's work. I described her to her many friends as being smart as a dog, playful as a kitten and as devious as a cat.
Favorite memory:
Every birthday I recieved from a dear friend, a 1 pound box of See's Chocolates, which I carefully concealed on top of a computer desk with a 7 foot high hutch on top. Since I live on a farm, it was Farfel's job to mouse while I was away so she was out of her cage... I returned from teaching art at a local elementary school to find her "rim rocked" (stranded) atop the desk.... with the chocolates spilled on the floor. It took me a while to figure how she did it. She had jumped from the computer chair, to the desk, she climbed out the back through the cable pass through hole and then amazingly climbed the remaining 4 foot by forcing her back against the rear of the hutch and climbing the texured wall.
Thoughts :
Farfel was sweet kind soul who never showed malice to anyone..... (except field mice). I am a portrait artist who toured the greater North West with her. She was my goodwill ambassador at all my art shows and fairs. She never tired of being petted and loved by all who met her. She genuinely loved to travel, meet new people and be held and loved by anyone. She was the most famous ferret (aside from the one in the Budweiser commercials) in the State of Idaho. On last Saturday (the 24th of June 1999) We were in the resort community of Lava Hot Springs for a Pioneer Days Celebration. At two o'clock we broke to get her usual treat for a good days work. We went to an ice cream parlor and I got us a cone to share..... she loved ice cream. I arrived back at my booth and put her in her travel cage to nap as was her habit after a feast. I started to do another portrait when something told me to turn around. Three children had fished her out of her cage and one of them was holding her by her middle zooming her through the air like a toy plane. I told them to put her down and go away.... she trotted under my car which was parked on the lawn behind my booth, as she usually did when she did not wish to be disturbed. Ten minutes later I went to check on her and she was dead. Apparently from an internal hemorage. She was layed to rest the next day. Curled in a ball with her head tucked under her ass as if sleeping, along with her favorite toy and lovingly wrapped in her favorite sleeping towel. I buried her in the wildflower patch in my yard she loved to play in. I miss her deeply and she already has a godson, Nicodemus whom I purchased two days later. I guess God took her simply because there was another ferret who needed me more. Rest in peace Farfel, and know that you are loved and missed.
