STARCHING

"Joy" requires a stiffening process to achieve the desired effect. Read the following instructions before beginning.

Prepare stiffening solution by one of the following methods:

1. Mix a heavy solution of commercial starch following manufacturer's directions.

2. Mix equal parts of white glue and water.

3. Using a commercial fabric stiffener, follow manufacturers’ directions. This is the most durable method, but remember that it is permanent; it will not wash out.

To stiffen the angel’s dress, use the following procedure.

Cover ironing board or blocking board with plastic wrap; cover cone with plastic wrap.

Keeping head dry, immerse dress in stiffening solution and squeeze to remove excess. Blot with paper towel.

With cone on blocking board, place dress over cone and pin edges at regular intervals. Stuff sleeves with plastic wrap. Let dry before removing pins and plastic wrap.
