Is Your Discus Male or Female?
I'm not an expert or a know all. My opinion about this article comes from my expieriance as a hobbyist and a breeder. If the said discus is about 1 year to 1 year and 6 months, it's easier to determine the sex of the fish. Males normally has a rounded body shape. the upper fins has a long tip, it's shape has a sharp or pointed direction. Male discus has a bigger tail. If you can see this 3 distinguishing marks in your discus, you have a 51% chance that your discus is a male. Female discus are normally smaller compare to male. And has no pointed upper fins and smaller tails. it's the opposite of the male. If it breeding already or laying eggs. you can also see the reprodcutive organs. Males has a pointed organs like a tip of a ballpen. Females has a tubular look alike organs. If you will be from a single batch of discus, the best bet to get 3 medium size and 3 big size. Normally the bigest in the batch is a male. It's not 100%, but chance are it's a male. Some of my current breeders are 2-3 inch when i bought them, i used this kind of information in mind when i buy discus.
