THE TRADITIONAL
SIAMESE
Also known as the applehead, the traditional Siamese is robust with a
round face.
THE CLASSIC SIAMESE
Basically a version inbetween traditional and modern.
ORIGINS
WE all know that Siamese originated from Thailand (Siam)
IN 1884 the departing British consul,General Goud was given a pair by
the King as a farewell gift, which was considered a great honour as the
only Siamese where those at the palace.
The progeny of these cats were first exhibited at the 17th Crystal palace
cat show in October 1885, DuenNgai, Kalohom and Khromata.
These cats were round headed, solid, muscular and the only colour back
then the original Seal-point.
The first ever Champion-Wankee,imported from HongKong in 1895 was a great
ambasordor for the applehead, this cat showed clearly the traditional
look against the modern Siamese of today.
OUT OF FAVOUR
In the early 1980s the by then classic look Siamese began to lose
favour as various breeders and judges began to favour a longer, thinner
body conformation and began to encorage the breed away from the
classical look to the modern type we see today.
TODAY
By around 1986 there wre no traditional/Classic Siamese being shown, many modern
breeders and members of the public were of the opinion Siamese had
always looked like the modern version.
As they could not win on the showbench anymore, many breeders stopped
breeding(myself including).
This promted the birth of some of the trad/classic clubs and promted
them to take action to bring them back from the point of extintion.
FUTURE
It is hoped one day as with other registating organisations
around the world that the Governing Council Of The Cat Fancy(GCCF)
will again soon recognise the Traditional and Classic Siamese as
a breed again separate from the modern and one day the show halls
will be filled with both side by side.
Lets hope the future
of the Real Royal Cat of Siam is brighter.
