Ananova : Torso found in river 'was young woman' A human torso discovered in a river was that of a young female, detectives say. The remains were found in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, by a member of the public. They were found near the spot where the torso of former soldier Daniel Hutcheson was found almost two weeks' ago. Following a post-mortem examination, Strathclyde Police say the remains belong to a female aged between 12 and 22. The body was spotted in the waters of the River Leven at Sandpoint. Detective Superintendent Stephen Ward of Dumbarton CID, said: "We are currently looking into all reports of missing females in the Strathclyde area and have alerted other forces, both in Scotland and throughout the UK, with a view to doing the same." Detectives say there is nothing at this stage to suggest a link between the discovery and that of Mr Hutcheson, whose torso was found on the foreshore near to Erskine Ferry Road, Old Kilpatrick on Friday April 26. Mr Hutcheson, 23, from Drumchapel in Glasgow, was found wrapped in material by two men out walking their dogs. The body of Amy Anderson, 19, from the Alexandria area, near Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, was discovered in the River Leven in Dumbarton on Thursday. The teenager's torso was the second to be found in the area in recent weeks. Strathclyde Police said Amy's relatives are aware of the discovery. Amy, who was originally from the Dumfries area, had been reported missing on May 4 by friends, police said. However, Strathclyde Police said there was a confirmed sighting of her on Sunday May 5. The discovery came after the remains of former soldier Daniel Hutcheson were found less than five miles away on April 26. Police have not ruled out a link between the two deaths, which are being treated as suspicious. Detective Superintendent Stephen Ward, leading the inquiry, said tonight: "A family liaison officer has been appointed to keep Amy's family aware of any progress with our inquiry. "We are anxious to speak to anyone who knew Amy and who can shed any light on her whereabouts since Saturday. She had stayed at various addresses in the Alexandria area since she moved there and we are keen to find out where she had been prior to the date she went missing and who she associated with. "Once again I would say that so far there is nothing to link Amy's death and that of Daniel Hutcheson, although we can rule nothing out."
