Barrhead Obituaries Indexes

Barrhead, is located in northern Alberta. It was founded in 1927.
The Barrhead Leader is the local newspaper. It was established in 1928 and is published weekly. It covers a fairly large area surrounding the Town of Barrhead.

Obituaries Index of the Barrhead Leader, Vol. 1 1928-1969

An alphabetical index of over 2000 obituaries found in the Barrhead Leader between 1928 and 1969. It includes surname, given name, date of death, age, cemetery and date of newspaper the obituary appeared in.

We have these obituaries on index cards. Some obituaries have very detailed information, others are only a Notice to Creditors with name and date of death. In the Index some extra information may have been added from other sources as tombstone inscriptions. On some occasions the year of death in the obituary did not agree with the tombstone information, therefore this Index should only be used as a guide to assist you in finding more information, rather than the absolute truth. Some issues of the newspapers were missing so we do not have the obituaries of those. With that exception all those obituaries that were printed have been included in this Index.

Obituaries Index of the Barrhead Leader, Vol. 2 1970-1989

An alphabetical index of over 2300 obituaries found in the Barrhead Leader between 1970 and 1989. It includes surname, given name, date of death, age, funeral location and burial place.

In the 1970's we began clipping and pasting obituaries from the Barrhead Leader onto index cards. Later we decided that we wanted to have the complete collection of Barrhead Leader obituaries, so we began by copying them from original newspapers held by the Barrhead and District Historical Society. Later we copied them from microfilmed newspapers held by the Edmonton Legislature Library. In 1993 we began entering the information into our computer. We knew it would be easier to find information if it was in index form, rather than spending hours hunting through old newspapers or microfilms.
