Descendants Of Theophilus Blinn

Theophilus Blinn was born 03 Nov 1764 in Georgetown (Woolwich), Maine; the son of James Blinn and Jane Gilmore.  He was married to Patience Gray on 06 or 08 Oct 1789, also in Woolwich ME.  Together they had three children; Jane, Elizabeth and James.  He died 24 Apr 1841.  Jane was the child of Alexander Gray and Abihail (or Bihel) Young.  She was born 13 Nov 1766 and died 30 Nov 1844.  Theophilus was a farmer in Woolwich.

This is an early type of photograph probably taken in the 1860s or thereabout.  It is a photo of a painting, so was taken after his death  It is the earliest photo I have of an ancestor of mine.  The original is in possession of Euphia Blinn

The graves of Theophilus and Patience are located in Woolwich, Maine at the Nequasset Cemetery.  The above photos were taken by June Koeppe in  October 2000, a descendant of theirs.  The graves are side by side, but note the difference in spelling of the last name.

Children of Theophilus Blinn & Patience Gray

1. Jane Blinn was born 25 May 1790 and died 01 Apr 1882.  She married John Wright,(son of John Wright & Lucy Brookings).  They had five children; Betsy (born: 16 Apr 1817), Elbridge (born:16 Jul 1819), John Blinn (born: 07 Feb 1822), Alden Bradford (born: 06 Jun 1824), and Warren Augustus (born: 17 Feb 1827). Nothing more is known by me of this family, before or after this time.  If you have information about this line please contact me.

2. Elizabeth Blinn, born 18 Dec 1796 and died 16 May 1872 married Elias Brookings on 18 Oct 1814.  Elias was born 15 May 1794, the son of Josiah Brookings and Eunice Dunton.  Elias Brookings was a seaman and he built Grand Banks fishing schooners.  The Brookings Family information is here, including their children and descendants.

3. James Blinn was the only son we know about.  He was born 29 Oct 1799 in Woolwich ME and died 20 Jan 1840.  He married Parmelia Springer 26 Apr 1821.  Parmelia was born about 1789 and died 03 Jul 1864 (her lineage is unknown).  After James' death, she remarried to Jesse Harriman 15 Nov 1845.  Nothing more is known of her.  James and Parmelia had William James, Edmund Theophilus and Mary Patience.  William James was born 06 Dec 1821 and married 22 Dec 1846 to Sarah L Crocker, 1825 - 1905, (daughter of William Crocker & Sarah ?). Their children were Mary, James, Abbie, William, Pamelia, & Sarah. Edmund Theophilus was born 02 De 1823 and died 31 Dec 1861.  He married Nancy W Rittal on 19 Apr 1858.  Their only child was Edmund Roscoe.  Edmund Theophilus was a mariner.  He was captain of the merchant vessel Plaides and was killed by a mutineer at sea. Nancy W Rittal (listed on the census as Nancy Meyers Rittle, listed as Nancy N. Rittal on marriage cert, & listed as Nancy Meyers on Edmund's death cert. talk about confusing) was descended from the "German" settlers, actually for the most part French Huguenots who settled in Frankfort Plantation, later Dresden, Maine.  Nancy was born in 1832 and died Dec 1882 in Arrowsic ME. Mary Patience was born 01 Jan 1827 and married Loring White.  Nothing more is known of her yet.

Hallowell Vital Records), daughter of William and Mary (Norcross) Springer. She was the last child of William's first marriage. She d. 3 July 1864 ae 63 y 7 m (ref: Families of Woolwich, p. 40). married (1) 26 April 1821, James Blenn/Blinn. I did not have the date of her second marriage -- was it in Woolwich? William Springer was b. Georgetown 29 Nov 1755, son of John & Hannah (Trufant) Springer (ref. Georgetown VR). He d. Hallowell 29 Apr or 4 May 1816 ae 62 (both dates are given in Hallowell VR). He married (1) Pownalborough 21 Mar 1782 Mary Norcross of Pittston, b. prob Gardiner 1763 dau of Samuel and Mary (Wiswall) Norcross, d. Hallowell 8 Feb 1808. Married (2) (returned) 17 April 1809 Elizabeth/Betsey Jewett (Hallowell VR), b. Hopkinton NH Dec 1776, dau of Moses and his second wife Mary (Sawyer) Jewett. d. Woolwich 21 Nov 1831. I am also researching Harrison Blenn - as he married into the Meserve family which was my great-grandmother's family. I have submitted a sketch of William Springer's family for the next edition of MAINE FAMILIES IN 1790. One of my holes is Pamela's second marriage. Child of Edmund & Nancy [James,Theophilus] Edmund Roscoe Blinn, was born 09 Mar 1859 in Bath ME. He died of chronic vascular heart disease in Augusta ME on 17 Mar 1923.  He was a printer and farmer.  He married Elizabeth Percy Brookings on 03 Feb 1886 in Cambridge MA.  Edmund was in the USMC from 10 Sep 1879 to 31 Jan 1882.  He served aboard the USS Wabash and the USSteamer Swatara.  In Boston for awhile he was a horse car conductor.  Elizabeth Percy Brookings was born 28 Jan 1856 in Woolwich ME and died 18 Nov 1938 in Somerville MA of acute bronchitis.  Edmund and Elizabeth had three children: Fred Roscoe, Florence Brookings, and Elmore Grant.  More on Elizabeth's ancestors on the Brookings of Woolwich Page.  (click here for photos)

Children of Edmund & Elizabeth [Theophilus, James, Edmund]

Fred Roscoe Blinn was born 03 Apr 1887.  He served in the navy before he was married  at age 27 to Bertha Lord.  They had Betty, born 30 Aug 1923 in Exeter NH, who married Marvel Gallentine.  Fred later married Lila Wilson Weston Dodge.  When he died, 13 Feb 1963 in Port Orange Florida, his ashes were scattered at sea.

Florence Brookings Blinn was born 22 Nov 1891 in Wisscasset ME.  She was a registered nurse, psychiatric, and worked at Foxboro Hospital.  She graduated from Worcester State Hospital in 1911 and lived in Lawrence MA.  She passed the Massachusetts State Board on 14 Dec 1917. cert# 8039.  She never married and had no children.  She died 23 Mar 1971 in Exeter NH.

Elmore Grant Blinn, born 04 May 1893 in Cambridge MA, was an auto mechanic and shipper.  He worked in the Federal Government Navy Yard in Portsmouth NH until his retirement  On 30 Aug 1917, he married Abbie Catherine Bean in Shrewsbury MA.  Elmore died 14 Feb 1955 in Purta Gorda, Florida.  Abbie Catherine was descended from the Lefavre family of Quebec whose lineage in the New World goes back to the 1600s.  The family changed its name to Bean upon coming to the USA.  For more information go to her father's page, The Lefebvres of Quebec, or her mother's page, The Fortiers of Quebec. Abbie was born 14 Dec 1895 in Fitchburg MA and died Oct 1984.  She was a shirtmaker and she tatted.  Elmore and Abbie had five children: Edmund Daniel, Arthur Fred, James Elmore, Ruth Florence, and Helen Elizabeth. 1. Edmund Daniel was born 21 Feb 1918 in Fitchburg MA, died Jul 1986; married on 19 Feb 1938 to Arline Frances Tebbets, born 25 Jul 1919 died Jan 1993.  Their children are Judith Ann and William Burton. 2. Arthur Fred, born 20 Jan 1920 in Leominster MA, was a USAF master sergeant.  He married Lorraine Boegle Brown and they had Fred, Catherine and Bernice Edwina.  He later married a woman named Helen and Frances L Henle, I'm not sure of the order or when.  He was in the military from 1936 to 1955.  Arthur died 2 Oct 1988 in Santa Marie CA. 3.  James Elmore was born 24 Mar 1923 in Leominster MA.  He was a teacher, author, and auto mechanic.  He married Euphia Ophelia Swan on 16 Dec 1943 in Exeter NH.  Euphia is descended from the Swan and Leach families of Ohio and West Virginia, more on this line to come.  Their children are Benjamin James, Jesse Mildred and Jon Mark.  James died in Reno NV 02 Dec 1997 (click here for photos of the family not the funeral) 4.  Ruth Florence was born 13 Aug 1924 in Exeter NH.  She was a nurse and married Larry Pelchat.  Their only child is Donald.  Donald has three children Rebecca, Errol and Ross.  (click here for photos) 5. Helen Elizabeth was born 09 Jan 1926, died 17 May 1998 in Warren RI.  She never married and had no children.

note: I had ended here, mostly because of lack of information andtime and I never went back to it.  I will get the later generations added as I can.  I know Ruth now has a greatgrandchild, James has 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as everyone descended from Edmund.  I was hoping to hear from them and now I have!!!!
