"Hail, Bop" This is the first CD for these guys and it's probably the best CD to have come out of N.S.W. since I first got into this crazy music in '81 The sound is as authentic as you could get. You could imagine them on the bill with Curtis Gordon and Sid King and think they were from the 50's. The sound has got that real rockabilly/hillbilly sound and the songs they cover lend themselves to that great sound. "Wash Machine Boogie", "Hey Sheriff" and Everybody's Rockin'" might even be better than the originals and the stuff the guys wrote like "Parramatta Hotrod Man", "Hail, Bop Comet" and "Cane Cutter Boogie" are just out of this world, as good or better than the stuff coming out of the states and Europe. Congratulations guys, you've got a winner! Oh I love the cover of the CD. Check it out. Two heads (or should I say Eds') are better than one. Rockin' Marc Rondeau/ King Pin Record Hop |

'Groove Juice' Satellite V: "GROOVE JUICE" Hopalong Records, Atomic Hillbilly,2000 What the....? Imagine, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams got into an atomic accident, melted to one gigantic cloud of energy, then blew down under, crashed into an Oz-trALIEN Country Diner featuring George Harrison that day doing a Carl Perkins- inpersonation, who then abducted them in his 1934 Ford Coupe while vanishing in a herd of pompadour cattle, riding along on their longboards. Too far gone, hear ya say ? You haven't heard the Satellite V before, that's it ! Everything from bombastic originals like 'Satellite Boogie', 'Hillbilly Nitro' or 'Speedlimit Daddy' to covers like Johnny Carrol's 'Crazy Crazy Lovin' is possible in an aggressive, well ballanced, yet up to date grooving Hillbilly sound. My personal favorites are the Perkins-ballad 'Sure to fall' and the outstanding biker anthem 'Beatles (Beetles?) miss you Johnny'. Tell ya, if that is Atomic Hillbilly, I'll go blow up the next plant and get me some more... |

'Hillbilly Safari' 'Hillbilly Safari' is Satellite V's 3rd album and was presented at Wintersun 2002. It features originals including "Ganymede Baby", "Hudson Sled", "Fruit Fly" and "Hillbilly Safari", and renditions of Merrill Moore's "Bell Bottom Boogie", Roy Hall's "Three Alley Cats", Carl Perkins' "Pop let me have the Car" and Big Joe Turner's ever great rhythm & blues rocker "Honey Hush". There's a total of 14 tunes on this great new album. Indeed, this third release is more hillbilly than the first two albums, but strangely enough, it's not less rockabilly. Instead of "wild and rocking", this platter is more like "cool and thumping". And if this ain't rockabilly, I must be a hillbilly... The overall sound is fantastic, the way Steve thumps his bull fiddle and the cool bluesy licks of Roy's lead guitar will get shivers down every rockabilly's spine. The raving rendition of Dale Hawkins' "Little Pig" is fabulous, with Tim singing as if he's chewing some gum at the same time (or is it a bite of chew tabacco?) and Web Pierce's "Teenage Boogie" has been a long time time favorite of mine. Warren Smith's "So Long, I'm Gone" (written by Roy Orbison) sounds like never before, these guys sure know how to revive old classics. You can listen to samples and order your copy from the Satellite V website. |
