Turning - The low down
DISCLAIMER: This article is only an opinion on a contentious topic,
and I take no responsibility for its accuracy.
" Turning " - The transforming of a non-vampire into a vampire
by another vampire, usually involving a transfer of blood.
Seems simple enough, but the question is: can it be done? And if so, should it?
This has become one of the hottest topics in the online vampire community,
starting both flame wars and rational discussions. This is my opinion.
As to whether it can be done, it depends. I do believe that a latent
vampire (one which has not yet awakened) may be forced to awaken by
another vampire, with or without an exchange of blood.
But what about a " normal " human?
It is my thought that it may be possible, but involves such great risks
for both parties that I can't imagine why anyone would ever attempt such a thing.
Vampirism seems to be a condition of the spirit body rather than the
physical one (although its symptoms affect both), thus it stands to reason
that, as well as blood, some part of the spirit must be given to the person
being turned, and I'm sure you can imagine why that is a bad thing (for the
vampire especially.) In fact I'm sure it will damage them permanently
somehow. I mean, blood can be replenished, but the spirit?
So, turning is virtually impossible in my opinion, and even if it weren't
I don't think it would ever be fair to inflict vampirism on another.
I believe we are vampires because we are strong enough to handle it. I shudder
to think of a weaker person trying to keep the beast under control...Which is
why turning is best left alone - even if it is possible.
