Pineapple - Pear Jam

1 med pineapple 8 large ripe pears
8 cups sugar ½ cup lemon juice

Peel, core and cut pineapple into small pieces. Peel, core and chop pears into small pieces.  Add pineapple with juice, pears and ½ cup of water to the saucepan and simmer over a medium  - low heat until tender - about 10 minutes. Add the sugar and lemon juice and  and stir over a low heat until all the sugar is dissolved. Simmer for about an hour, stirring often, or until the mixture drops thickly from a spoon.
Ladle into hot, pre - sterilized jars and seal.

Makes 8 to 10 cups (depending on size of pears)
