Groundhog Coming out of his Hole
Take a foam cup and paint outside in glue. Cover with either sand or brown construction paper.
Take a Popsicle stick and glue a brown pompom on the end. Put some eyes on the pompom.
Make a small slit in bottom of cup and put the Popsicle stick in the slot. The "groundhog" will now be able to peek out of the hole to see his shadow.
I'm a Little Groundhog (sung to I'm a little teapot)
I'm a little
groundhog short and stout,
February second I will come out.
If I see my shadow they will shout,
"Six weeks more winter without doubt!"
Make a shadow portrait.
Have child sit so you can shine light on the wall and trace his/her profile.
My Shadow
My Shadow is a quiet friend
Who always sticks near me.
All day long he hangs around
Right there for me to see.
My shadow is always with me
Whenever there is light.
But I wonder where my shadow goes
When it gets dark at night.
