German Line
My German line hails from the town of Westerweyhe (Click here for a history of the Grosskruegers in Westerweyhe and a bit about the place), now incorporated into the larger city of Uelzen (picture below) in Niedersachsen (flag on the right.) [Click here for map - can be slow to load] My ancestors emigrated in 1867 when the Kingdom of Hannover, in which Westerweyhe was at the time located, was incorporated into the Kingdom of Prussia. The main family name was originally KRUEGER, but in the 17th century was divided up into GROSSKRUEGER (the branch with the larger farm), LUETKRUEGER (the branch with the smaller farm) and WILLENKRUEGER (the branch whose farm was on the outskirts of the village - "Willen" meaning "wild".) The GROSSKRUEGERS were wine & beer sellers as well as farmers.
I am researching the following surnames: (Please click on the name for the full listing)
