Ranger Badges

Ranger badges are worn on "badge tabs" a small fabric rectangle that is pinned on the upper left chest.

Below are just some of the badges Rangers can receive, we will be adding more as they are earned and scanned in:

        Investiture Badge

This is the badge every member of Guides New Zealand is given when they make the Promise.
Usually worn off the Badge Tab.

    World Badge 

This badge can be worn by any member of WAGGGS
Can be worn in and out of uniform.

    Auckland Regional Badge

New Zealand is divided into 22 regions.
Auckland's badge has a lovely picture of None Tree Hill as it used to be.

    12 Point Challenge
This badge is earned by doing an activity from each of the 12 points of the ranger programme, then re-earned each year by doing a new activity from each point. The twelve points are: Future Focus, Leisure, Faith, Action Outdoors, Dynamic Health, Environmental Awareness, Service, Heritage, Promise and Law, Technology, International and Contemporary Issues.

   Introductory Leadership

This certificate is a preparation for working with a Pippin, Brownie or Guide Unit and involves learning a range of leadership skills.


    Practical Leadership

This certificate can be gained by Rangers working regularly in a Pippin, Brownies or Guide Unit.

 

    Outdoor Leadership 

This is earned by planning and carrying out and overnight expedition or exploration for 4-6 girls.

 

   Outdoor Leadership

This is earned by planning a Pippin Brownie or Guide Camp for up to 8 girls.

 



    40 Hours Service 

Gained at the completion of 40 hours community service.


  Horizon Badges
A Horizon badge is earned on completion of three Interest Certificates which must come from at least two different horizons. Another horizon badge is added to the gold base as another three certificates are completed. The old Horizon badge was a quarter circle, with four Horizons making the full circle. The Four Horizons in the Ranger Programme are My Horizon, Guiding Horizon, Outdoor Horizon and Wider Horizon.

   Special Activity  

An Special Activity is an extra activity that a ranger undertakes to challenge herself. The old badge used to fit in the centre of the four Horizon badges.

    Peak Award

This award is a halfway point for the highest Ranger Award, Queen's Guide. To gain it you need to complete the Introductory Leadership Certificate, Marketing Certificate part 1, 20 Hours Service and two Horizon badges.

 

    Ranger Wings

These are awarded to a Ranger learning to fly who undertakes her first solo flight in a small plane of glider (16 years and older).

 

Queen's Guide Award

The highest award for Rangers. To complete Queen's Guide you need Peak Award, Marketing Certificate Part 2, an Outdoor Permit or Practical Leadership Certificate, 40 Hours Service, Special Activity,  four Horizon Badges and to attend a Queen's Guide Residential Course.

These metal badges can also be worn on the Ranger badge tab until age 16 or they are replaced by higher awards.

     Chief Commissioners/Guides Aotearoa Award

Highest award for Guide aged girls.

    Senior Guide Award

Not worn if Chief Commissioners/Guides Aotearoa badge was later earned.

The link badge is earned by learning about and doing activities with Rangers while in Guides and presented at a special Link ceremony when the girl moved on from Guides to Rangers.

    Outdoor and Indoor Camp Permit 
A Camp Permit is earned by planning and running a two night camp for four to six girls.

    General's Award

The General's Award was a faith badge open to girls who were members of the Salvation Army or were in Red Shield Units (affiliated with the Salvation Army).
