Let start the "web city tour" from the most interesting tourism object in Makassar. the city that has been the main port for eastern part of the Indonesian archipelago since 15th. century, the main gate at that time to the Mollucas; the land of spices. The first city tourist object to be visited is turtle-shape complex in the city, namely:

Fort Rotterdam, built in 1545 by the rulers of the powerful Gowa kingdom, this impressively solid fort was later taken over by the Dutch and rebuilt in 1667.Within the solid walls is the dungeon where one of Indonesia's national heroes, Pangeran  Dipanegara, a Javanese Prince was imprisoned for 27 years until his death in 1855.

At the fort Rotterdam you can see walk through the bastalion and garden to the "Lagaligo" museum. From ancient years wood-skin clothing, coffins, utensils that has been use by 4 ethnics; namely Bugis, Makassar, Mandar and Toraja, old china-wares that shown that traders from China has been in the region for ages to the  traditional hand weaving  "machines", that in some of the region still be use to produce  the well known and can be seen women are weaving colorful silk at Pertenunan Sutera Alam. Silk of South Sulawesi has  typical designs like what we call it here: la'ba which means big rectangular shapes or the ca'di small rectangular shapes ornaments woven in colorful combination. An other typical silk design from South Sulawesi is the liling (candle), and garrusu' is the most expensive one. Beside at Pertenunan Sutera you can find it also at some souvenir shops like Toko Kerajinan, Kanebo Art, Mia's Art Shop, Oriental Art Shop or at the Yama Art Shop

Typical Traditional Houses of South Sulawesi can be visited at Tanjung Bunga; all 23 regencies in South Sulawesi display their houses at Taman Mini Sulawesi Selatan. It is 5 km from the center

The esplanade of Jalan Penghibur from Hotel Makassar Golden passing the Mayor's of Makassar Residence and Makassar Sedona Hotel up to Tanjung Merdeka, along 4 km, offers atmosphere, sea views and food stalls during the evening. An adventure by it self  The cosmopolitan character of Makassar can be felt at Paotere Harbour, where traditional motor sailing boats or perahu are docked. Interesting buildings can be found within the massive waterfront fortress of

Fort Rotterdam, built in 1545 by the rulers of the powerful Gowa kingdom, this impressively solid fort was later taken over by the Dutch and rebuilt in 1667.Within the solid walls is the dungeon where one of Indonesia's national heroes, Prince Diponegoro was imprisoned for 27 years until his death in 1855.

To-day the fort serves as a museum and cultural offices. captured by the Dutch in the 17th century, including the Makassar Provincial Museum. .

Jalan Pasar Ikan- Longest Dining Table in the World, so it was called by the former Minister of Tourism Post and Telecomunication Mr. Soesilo Soedarman when meet The School Council of SMKN 8 Makassar in 1992

Night - time transforms the palm-line waterfront into Sunset Strip, the longest dinning table in the world. As the sun sinks into Makassar Bay, stallholders appear wheeling their food carts, and soon the air is filled with appetizing flavour of barbequing sate, frying mee goreng or pisang epe and a host of other delicious dishes and drinks ready to be enjoyed. The stalls stay open way into the night as customers sit at tables or on the sea wall to enjoy the cool evening breezes while they eat

Makassar is best known for its fresh and delicious sea-foods, especially the Makassar style ikan bakar or barbequed fish. Try the specialty fish of the region, the Baronang- its tender white flesh and subtle taste is a favourite especially when eaten with the tantalising Makassar sauce, a taste-tingling blend of palm sugar, basil, green tomatoes, chill) and other secret ingredients. For a detailed recipe please visit the Web Library of SMKN 8 Makassar

In Makassar the streets are lined with gold or at least with gold shops! Jalan Somba Opu is the place to go, right in the center of town behind the Makassar Golden Hotel. Here, the superb craftsmanship and reasonable prices of the glittering gold jewelers make it a haven for people from all over Indonesia. Also keep a look out for the lovely filigree silver jewelers and beautifully crafted models of pinisi, becaks and various other icons of Sulawesi life, all at reasonable prices.

Behind the Sedona Makassar Hotel, you can find an orchid garden and a collector of sea-shells at Clara Bundt

There is also a plethora of souvenir shops and shops selling antique Bugis silver, antique celadon stoneware from China, brilliant Bugis silks, carved wooden figures and carved Toraja crafts. Cheaply-priced clothes, bed linens, shoes, travel gear and denims are all available at unbelievable prices at the main shopping area of Pasar Sentral, the Central Market.

A tranquil virgin resort island and a heaven for diver is just 15 minutes by speed boat to Samalona Island. Fresh water is available and grill your fresh catch on the white beach after wondering the sea garden in surrounding.
