To me Reiki is very serious and quite liberating at the same time. Reiki is very personal and the energy, though basically the same since it comes from a single source, is different for each practitioner. It depends on each person's relationship with the Creator, the Guides who watch over and help direct the practioner's actions, and the messages that resonate best with the healer. The Universe communicates with each individual in different terms because each person understands things differently than others do. I choose to transfer attunements and healing sessions via a combination of various cultural & religious practices, depending on the student or patient. Other teachers choose to transfer attunements in a more scientific manner. Today, many of us are being called on to serve in the Reiki divisions of local hospitals where classes in Reiki are also available. The ancient healing method has been proven to be effective in ways modern medicine is not and, finally, the medical communities have accepted and endorsed us. This makes us and our knowledge more needed than ever.
Many of my students have questioned how Reiki fits in with their religion. Does it go against the doctrines they believe in? No, it does not. Reiki is not a religion, but a healing technique just as acupunture, yoga, meditation, and herbalism are all healing techniques. In fact, in all my classes, (and I have taught devout Muslims, Catholics, and so many others), we discuss religion and spiritualism as a means of bringing it all together to work in harmony within the students. My greatest joy as a Reiki Teacher, a human being, and a minister, is to combine cultures, erase the fears and judgement, bring people from different religions together, then watch how well they compliment each other, how successful the students become from what they both learn from and teach each other.
