Background on Wrestler
Born in Texas only a few years before Vince McMahon's WWF exploded and turned professional wrestling into a national phenomenon, Francis Robert, who came to be known as Franky Funk, grew up with the tradition of regional wrestling promotions in an age where the tradition was dying. Though his family left Texas for the east coast when he was ten, Frank traces his love for the sport of pro-wrestling back to a fateful day in May of 1989 when, at the Dallas Sportatorium, he saw Eric Embry crack an opponent over the head with a baseball bat, sending the hapless grappler into a free-falling, backwards plunge which ended -- harshly -- on the hardwood floor of the Sportatorium.

"I remember watching it," Frank later said, "and thinking, 'holy shit! Did they just kill that guy?' When I saw that, I knew, somehow, I had to be a part of it, even if I had to be the guy getting drilled in the head to make it."

The "guy" in question who had taken the bump on the wood floor (and at the same instant inspired Frank's career choice) was a little known star on the 1989 indy scene by the name of Cactus Jack.

Ten years later Frank began training in Pennsylvania (his family, at the time, was living in Farmville, New York) and on February 27, 2000, (the same day Cactus Jack and HHH tore down the house at Madison Square Garden) had his first professional match. He lost in ten minutes, after a spot went awry and caused Frank to be busted open from a collision with a turnbuckle.

Four years and change after his first match, Franky-Funk Roberts is ready to try his hand in ECW: the biggest company he'll have worked for to date.
